After considering options for my final project, I have chosen to go
with substance abuse, specifically opioid abuse. I reside in a small
town in western Pennsylvania and have found that resources in my
area are actually pretty slim, but we live close to Pittsburgh and the
options there are a variety for many different forms of substance
abuse. There are several options to meet the needs of different
individuals. These different options include but are not limited to,
outpatient treatment, in patient treatment, detox management,
medication assisted treatment (MAT) and group therapy sessions.
These options can be accessed through different websites or you can
reach out to local (if applicable) drug and alcohol treatment centers.
My specific area has “Clearfield Jefferson Drug and Alcohol
Commission”. This program was created to help those in our small
area find the resources and placements they need that aren't directly
at our fingertips. The commission assists in evaluations and makes
the proper referrals or recommendations to accommodate each
individual based on their needs. Below I have attached links to the
Clearfield Jefferson Drug and Alcohol Commission.

This site includes helpful links such as “Get Help Now’, Helpful
Resources and Recovery Serivces. It also guides a person into the
direction of getting Narcan if needed. b
This is a form of intervention to those who are in need of recovery
from their addiction. I think it helps the community because of the
lack of resources available. The Drug and Alcohol commission is a
great starting point for anyone who may have nowhere else to turn.
It may even designate them to areas that we had no idea had so
many resources to help find sobriety which helps strengthen the
community health. b Care can be provided to those struggling through
inpatient or outpatient services, while detox services provide safe
environments for those who need medical assistance while their
bodies go through the process of riding itself of all the negative
toxins found in whatever drug they use. While MAT can help assist a
person in recovery sustain their sobriety it can also help prevent
overdose.
I am wondering if anyone else is from a smaller isolated area that
does not have a variety of resources within the actual community but
has to go out of the way to get help for addiction? b
