Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:
Hiring practices
While observing several hiring scenarios in the simulation, it was identified that many
family members were reluctant to introduce outsiders in the workplace. However, the
fundamental purpose of the simulation is to create a successful business. For ensuring that
diversity, equity, and inclusion were promoted in work setting, it was decided that the company
would be passed on to Harsh’s son Ravi. Additionally, professional management would be hired
along with an outside CEO and a mixed board of directors will be created within the
organization. Such steps would ensure diverse voices are heard to make important business
decisions and expand knowledge of business practices. The reason for introducing an outside
CEO was to introduce an individual who had a comprehensive understanding of the business
landscape and was dedicated and hardworking as well.
Areas for improvement b
It was decided not to introduce outside investors so that the business could grow at a
faster pace. It could have offered a unique perspective while increasing money. By taking such a
step, the level of diversity and inclusion within the firm could have increased. However, it could
also lead to an increase in individuals who wanted change, and it could adversely affect
initiatives of the business as a part of CSR. Due to this concern, it was decided against bringing
in outside investors. b

Community and social initiatives

Seema, Harsh daughter, was responsible for handling the philanthropic activities of the
business after her graduation. The company was committed to giving back to the community, and
thus it gave 5 % of its annual profits to charity. In the simulation, it was the only CSR initiative
that was mentioned. Another positive thing that as observed was that Seema’s department was
expanding. b
Areas for improvement b
The family business could have taken additional social and community initiatives to
create value at a comprehensive level. For example, it could have started a community-based
scholarship for any individual who had plans of going to college for attaining a business degree
that could be beneficial for the firm. It could also attach a job offer to the individuals at the end of
their graduation so that they would have employment opportunities. Additionally, there is an
option to raise awareness by the company and collected funds to safeguard dying bees. This issue
could have been addressed since it adversely affected the firm and the environment. Such
initiatives would have indicated about the company that it cared about society and focused on its
betterment.
