What is the company's position on DEI? Do they have a clear policy or initiative
around it?
Calvin Klein highly supports DEI initiatives. They have a whole section on their website for
Black Lives Matter. “We believe in zero tolerance for injustice, hate and inequality; however,
we have more and important work to do when it comes to championing a louder voice on
human rights issues that affect our associates, our customers, and our communities. Our
commitment is to ensure an organization where we support each other in open and honest
dialogue, provide resources for further education on issues affecting our teams and
communities and use our voice to stand up for what is right” (Calvin Klein 2022). In their
career section they also address DEI initiatives. As an innovative, global company at the
forefront of our industry, Calvin Klein places a strong emphasis on community, diversity,
human rights and the environment and we seek individuals who share our same core values
(Calvin Klein 2022).
What actions could you take to ensure a diverse, inclusive, and equitable project team
is assembled?
Calvin Klein is committed to creating a team of diverse employees. They take pride and
action in this. It is important for them to make sure they are hiring employees from all
different backgrounds. a
What is the company's commitment to CSR and how does it affect their profitability or
image in the market?
Calvin Klein’s commitment to CSR is by creating more sustainable clothing and supporting
human rights. “Our human rights policy is embodied in our A Shared Commitment code of
conduct, which outlines our commitment to and expectations of our business partners,
including our supply chain partners and the workers who make our products. Adherence to
the human and labor rights standards in this code by those who seek to do business with us,
and by their business partners in our supply chain, is a prerequisite for establishing or
continuing a relationship” (PVH 2021). “Human Rights have been a long-standing priority
for our business. We were one of the first apparel companies to issue a code of conduct when
we issued A Shared Commitment in 1991, and we built a global team to support it. Today, our
commitment to protect and advance human rights is corner[1]stone to our Forward Fashion
strategy, which includes seven clear human rights-focused priorities, each with its own time-
bound target” (PVH 2021). a When it comes to environmental impact there are also several
measures the company takes. Calvin Klein uses come eco-friendly materials in its line,
including organic cotton. It has a set science-based target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
generated from its own operations and supply chain, and it has a policy approved by
CanopyStyle to prevent deforestation of ancient and endangered forests in its supply chain
(Rauturier 2021). The company continues to work on reducing waste and committing to
sustainability.
How does your product or service align with the company's CSR program and how can
you leverage this position as a competitive tool?
My product is a subscription box so it somewhat of strays away from their CSR program
because there are shipping materials involved. The company could definitely push their
sustainable products as options for the boxes though which will help support their overall
mission. They could also look into reducing the amount of packaging involved in the boxes.
