Four Core American Revolution Principles: popular sovereignty, limited government,
separation of powers, and checks and balances. Government was put in to place to everyone
needs are addressed, ensure equality, freedom of speech, and also maintain order. You have
the Democracy whose government is elected by the population and majority rules. Republics
power is held by the people. Head of the states has the power and the majority rules by
chosen elected officials. Today the government is here to make sure laws are made and
followed, and if not punishment is enforced. It allows me to have a voice and the right to
vote for individuals I want to see in office. These core principles are implemented in our
modern republic in the following ways: Popular Sovereignty is the heart of what this country
is built on. The majority gives the power. The government obtains its power from the
authority of the people. This is why we vote and the majority can be represented by an
elected official. This is also what gives the American people the ability to speak out against
their leaders and hold them accountable for their actions. Limited government ensures
boundaries are not crossed. This core principle exists because we as humans understand that
we are flawed and susceptible to mistakes and corruption. The government needs to be
limited to the authority the people give it. Separation of powers is implemented by
separating them into the legislative, executive and judicial sections of the government. This
is actually what creates the last principle, checks and balances, which keeps the government
from becoming a dictatorship. Even the laws are broken up between the segments of
government so there can never be an all-powerful entity.
A republic led country has elected officials that rule, and a democracy is led by the majority.
To that end I think there are many things the Founding Fathers would be proud of but maybe
even more they would not agree with. They envisioned a future where people could not feel
taken advantage by their leaders, where there was no deception and where they could live
free of tyranny and oppression. Over the years however the officials of this country (not all
but some) have proven that we can still be taken advantage of. The world has changed, and
so has the country. The U.S. Constitution is basically a list of rights that Americans have.
When I talk about it, I am always temped to say ‘rules’ instead of rights. They are stating
what the government can and cannot do to us. We still go by the Constitution now and I do
not see us stopping to. I have heard people say that it might change soon with the times, but
I do not see that going over very well.
A republic is different from a democracy in many ways. In one way, in a pure democracy,
the rights of citizens can be changed by a majority vote. In a republic, the rights are a set of
‘rules’ (as I stated before) for the rights of all citizens. There can be new laws and the re-
traction on laws can happen, but it must not interfere with the U.S. Constitution.
In a Limited Government the government only has the powers that the Constitution gives it.
Separation of Powers, the Constitution separates the government into three branches which
are the judicial branch, legislative branch, and the executive branch. Checks and Balances
safeguards against abusing power. Federalism, the Constitution gives the federal government
the power to coin money, declare war, and regulate trade between the states. These core
principles are applied in our modern republic because they are the fundamental principles on
which Americans stand. Republic is different from Democracy because in a republic the
people vote on a representative who will make laws and an executive to enforce those laws.
In a Democracy the power to govern is rests with a country’s people instead of a ruling
family or single individual. The current US government compares to the republic the
Founders has envisioned because the Founders envisioned a small federal government that
only dealt with issues
external to the states like war and currently the government is way too powerful.
Core principles allow the government to operate efficiently and with and with a certain
continuity.
Popular sovereignty means that the government operates only with the people's consent and
authority. This is why modern Americans still enjoy free elections in which the majority of
voters decide who will represent them in the political process. Checks and balances are
principles of government under which separate branches are empowered to prevent actions
by other branches. The House of Representatives has the sole power of impeachment, but
the Senate has all power to try any impeachment. In a limited government, the government's
powers and functions are restricted and carefully described in the Constitution. The
government must follow the law, and no one in the office is allowed to break it. Separation
of powers refers to the division of government responsibilities into distinct branches to limit
any one branch from exercising the core functions of another. Today our Congress has the
power to create laws.A Democracy means that citizens control how their government
operates, usually through voting. In a republic, the people elect representatives to make the
laws and an executive to enforce those laws.
The United States of America is so much better. The vision to create a government with a
Constitution as a living document has allowed the United States to evolve into one of the
best nations in the world. During my research for my response I found these core American
Revolution principles: popular sovereignty, limited government, separation of powers,
checks and balances, judicial review and federalism. One example of these core principles
can be found in article 1 section 1 of our constitution ''All legislative powers herin granted
shall be vested in a congress of the united states which shall consist of a senate and House of
Representatives''. This is an example of a separation of powers and this separation of powers
leads to checks and balances. The Bill of Rights in and of itself is an example of a core value
of limited government as the amendments list specific prohibitions on governmental power.
The Constitutional Convention is how we created our Republic.
The core principles of the American Revolution that led to the Constitutional Convention
that formed our Republic still apply in our modern Republic as much of our core values have
not changed. Popular sovereignty, limited government, checks and balances are some of our
original core values that have not changed. There are a few differences between a Republic
and a Democracy. ''In a pure Democracy, laws are made directly by the voting majority
leaving the rights of the of the minority largely unprotected''. '' In a Republic, laws are made
by representatives chosen by the people and must comply with a constitution that
specifically protects the rights of the minority''. Thoughtco.com/republic-vs-democracy-

In my opinion our current U.S. governments are the same in many ways when compared to
the old Republic as much of our core values have not changed. Some of our laws have
changed and we have new institutions and we have new technology but so much remains the
same as the wealthy maintain power through the same means. An example of this is a large
corporation influencing laws, regulation or deregulation to benefit there interests. This is
done through legal means and corruption. This is a great example of how politics of the past
are so much the same as modern day. hey start the Constitution with the Preamble or 13
reasons they should have Sovereignty from Britain monarchy. They came up with this new
idea that the Government's power is from the people and that the people have the right to
take the power back from the government.
They worked together so that the states would be unified and become one nation. Under the
Constitution the government was limited by the principles federalism limiting the power of
the federal government and giving power to the states. Then the constitution provides the
republican form of government where the people elect their representative to act on their
behalf. The constitutional rights was the written so that the people maintained right that the
government could not take away.
The constitutional right are written for the people to maintain their rights. Freedom of
speech, freedom of religion, and the right of trial by jury.
The government was limited by the constitution to prevent it from gaining too much power.
The government could only have the power that was give to it by the constitution. Meaning
everyone from the everyday individual to the president had to obey laws.
The core principles apply today because it explains how our government will work, when
and how the elections will be held, and list the rights we have. It explains how each branch
of government will function, how they will work together, and how each branch will control
the other.Democracy is where the government is working for the people. A republic the
people elect an official to make laws and executives to enforce those laws. The majority
wins and they work to maintain rights of the people but the people aren't guaranteed to have
rights. The major difference is that in a republic law can't be made without the direct input
of the people.I believe that the Founders would be proud of what the government has
become.
They set out government to be for the people. We have maintained our right of speech,
religion, and trial by jury. These core principles are reflected in the U.S. Constitution and
Bill of Rights by having in writing what the limits of the government and your right as a
citizen.
These core principles are applied in our modern republic by how the government is run. It
allows for the government to not have complete control on how it governs its people but also
how the people are allowed to choose who governs them, It gives a voice to those who
choose to participate in choosing its leaders.
To me the difference between a republic and a democracy is with a democracy the people
have a chance to decide on how they want the government to be ran. No laws can be passed
without the input of the people. In a republic the laws are made by representative that have
been chosen by the people. This person or person are the one to decide on the final say of a
law or bill.
Compared to the republic Founders I believe that the current U.S. government is pretty
closed to what they envisioned. The point of it all was to help establish and maintain a
system to where no one person or group had total control. Although, I believe that now more
corruption is involved than wanted the system does what it was set out to do. These core
principles are used in the U.S Constitution and Bill of Rights. Separation of powers is
divided into three different branches. These branches are legislative, executive, and judicial.
Each one displayed in the constitution. Federalism is in the Constitution, pretty much
explaining that there is sharing between national and state governments. Popular sovereignty
is in the tenth amendment, which is exercised when we vote, and a community and the
people get to choose their government. I've always thought this next one was interesting
when I was in high school, limited government can be found in both the ninth and tenth
amendment, both limiting the powers of the states against the national government.
The difference between republic and democracy, is that democracy is where the power to
govern rest more with the country's people and not individually while republic is the where
the power rests with a nations citizens. Me personally, I have always leaned more towards
the republican side, I believe that it is more freedom and there are more benefits for the
people.I would say it's pretty much exactly how they planned it would be, we are still a
union of separate nation-states which was what they envisioned, and we are still governed by
a government where they have the last say so over everything and are the supreme, without
peoples consent. The American revolution happened when America wanted to be free from
the British and be independent from them. Some of the core principles that the American's
felt was important to separate and fight for was popular sovereignty which a branch of the
government is elected by voting them in. Limited government was another important core
principle. They had just gotten away from having one person in charge. Who wanted charge
of everything including speech and the American's wanted the freedom to say what they
wanted. Separation of Powers which is that the government is divided into three branches
and that they are all created equal. The branches are the legislative, executive and judiciary.
Each branch has it's own responsibilities and it's own powers. Checks and balances which is
kind of similar to separation of powers. Checks and balances gives the authority to check the
power of the other branches through vetoing bills. These core principles are still important
today we have things like elections to vote in who we think is the right person for the job. A
republic differs from a democracy with power, a democracy the power is with the people. A
republic the power is in the law that is created to keep the people safe Our founders wanted
change, I think they would be shocked and surprised how much has changed with our
government.
