When describing academic writing to a co-worker who is considering returning to
school to earn their degree one can incorporate how there is a structural system,
set in place with academic writing. There are steps and categories one must oblige in
accordance to academic writing such as; brainstorming, rough drafts, first draft,
revisions, final drafts; introductions, thesis statement, three supporting paragraphs,
and conclusions; grammar, punctuation, line spacing, font size, and audience.
Academic writing is different to writing in life in that social media and texting is
informal and personalized to friends and family with less grammar standards. It is
very similar to work however, as it requires a degree of professionalism in
communication with co-workers and management.
