The matchmaker in the newly released film adaptation of Jane Austin's classic Emma is a high
school student, and the setting is the present day. The interactions are more open, and marriage
is not the desired outcome of the pairings. The early 19th century, a more traditional culture with
formal language and attire, is the background for the original film adaptation. The planned
pairings are intended to result in marriage. The fact that both films feature a character modeled
after Austin's "Emma," who seeks to set up connections between individuals, is a commonality
between the two films. Additionally, they are both members of upper-class societies who are
oblivious to the fact that they are single. By using a different environment, language, fashion,
and style, each variation depicts a different time and society. The earlier version depicts a
civilization that placed greater value on marriage and social standing.
The American flag is the object I have chosen. In terms of the connection between human
culture and expression and the American flag, my main question is: Why does the flag represent
freedom, justice, and hope for Americans? One strategy I may use to respond to this query is to
learn more about the meanings behind the colors and symbols used in the American flag.
