The project team I would select for my CSR and DEI tasks would be a
diverse group of people from different demographics and expertise
should work together as a team to get the work done. (McHale,
2019). Participation would be expected from everyone will help the
team work toward the set goal. Communication would be clear and
open with the entire team allowing for transparency of the safe
space being created. b The project manager and leader of the group
would be selected and work together to manage the different tasks
of the group. b Decision making is a trait required of the leader so that
if there was any conflict, it could be resolved quickly. Monitoring of
the group would be the manager’s job to keep track of progress.
Walmart is making some progress in their CSR, DEI areas but should
continue to improve. They have a Purpose section on the corporate
website that claims they aim to build a better world – helping people
live better and renew the planet while building thriving, resilient
communities. (Walmart.com, n.d.). b They have committed
opportunity by promoting respect for human rights. b They are
pursuing more products that are produced by American jobs. b The
sustainability of focusing on climate, nature, waste and people in
supply chains has helped clean up some areas that needed it.
Walmart has a community outreach program to help support local
communities in time of need. Food donations and nutritional
education are among some of these tasks. They also have a Culture,
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion team to help associates engage in their
potential. Walmart proclaims to want equity for all.
My team would be set up to hit each of the mentioned areas. All
employees would be educated on CSR and DEI to completely
understand why the time and energy are being put in place. b This
would be a way to attract people to engage in the programs.
Employees are the biggest asset, so they need to be treated with
respect and dignity. Walmart needs their opinions. Communities
would also be rewarded by the outreach program. Opinions would
be heard on which programs to donate items to. b There will be a
team to research suppliers to make sure they are respecting human
rights, using sustainable business practices, and have safe quality
products that match our company ethics policies. Employees would
be open to a team for suggestions on employment training,
education, health and well-being, or company advancement
opportunities. There would be a team that is monitoring and
improving Walmart’s business practices making corrections or
changes as needed. b The idea is to stay sustainable for generations.
Rewards would be given when tasks were completed. These could
be monetary, company wide recognition, or face to face verbal
thanks.
