I think the federal and state governments reach slightly on some rules
however, I think the regulations are best for the consumers,
environment, work force and society. I think rules and regulations
help set the moral compass for society and businesses. Rules and
regulations help to ensure businesses do the “right” thing for the
people and consumers rather than always focusing on the financial
impact of the daily decisions. Yes, I agree that rules and regulations
can be aggravating at times, however without them society would not
be pushed in doing the right thing.
When I think of rules in the workforce, the first agency I think of is
OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration of 1970),
could you imagine a working environment without OSHA rules and
regulations. a OSHA was created to ensure safe and healthful working
conditions for employees (20Businesses would not be required to
ensure their employees were safe or working in safe environments.
OSHA ensures Employees would rely strictly on the companies to the
right thing.
Another agency that I am grateful has rules and regulations is the EPA
(Environmental Protection Agency) regulates the manufacturing,
processing, distribution and use of chemicals. a ("Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA)", 2022) Without the EPA there would be no
restrictions on what chemical products we used, which would put
society and consumers at risk for illness, injury, or death. Without the
EPA there would be no controls on what is release into the
environment, which could result in unsafe air to breathe.
The (FDA) Food and Drug Administration is responsible with
protecting consumers against impure, unsafe, and fraudulently
labeled products. The FDA is responsible for the safety of all drugs
and medical equipment for humans and animals ("U.S. Food and Drug
Administration", 2022). Think of going to the doctor or taking
medicine without having the FDA to regulate. Taking pills or using
equipment that has never been tested or approved.
Obviously, this is a hot topic for pretty much everyone in America,
but I think the oil industry needs to have more regulations. The oil
industry sets its prices based on world events and it is not only driven
by supply and demand, but they are able to hold American’s hostage
with increased gas prices because it is needed for society to operate
under current situation. The cost per barrel can remain even, however
as soon as the summer months arrive gas process increase even
though the cost for raw material does not change. The oil companies
follow the trends of society and adjust the prices to maximize the
profits.
