I cannot answer definitively on behalf of all business sectors, but I do
believe that there are several regulations that are overcontrolling for
companies. While I’m sure there are some that may have appropriate
intentions, I feel that the majority of overcontrolling regulations are
in place simply to benefit unrelated parties. Some regulations seem
to be in place simply because a business exists and the regulators
want an easy way to snag some of the profit.
What I do not agree with in the associated article is the companies
complaining about the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and
how “the restrictions are costly and compromise profits” (Davis,
2022). Regulations such as this are essential and help to ensure the
health of our planet; complaining about not making as much profit in
this case isn’t a good look. This is obviously one of the regulations
that benefits society, not to mention the globe.
I believe there are regulations that are well placed and have the best
interest of either the businesses or the consumers in mind, but I also
feel that the article was accurate in stating that “governments also
have a long history of trapping nations into patterns of long-term
decline through overregulation” (Davis, 2022).
