Biblical Basis for Family Discipleship
Psychologists assert that individuals learn and emulate various attributes from a
tender age. Parents are expected to ensure that they are role models and to direct their
children Biblically. It is a God-given influence meant to instil an incredible foundation to
their children. The rationale is to form the basic tenets of family discipleship in the children’s
lives. It is imperative to rally the family around Biblical teachings so that they come to know
that a mighty redeemer exists. This analysis seeks to explore the basis for family discipleship
through spiritual formations. The findings based on available literature confirm that the
biblical foundation for family discipleship begins from a tender age.
It is the sole responsibility of parents to invest in their children’s emotional and
spiritual growth. It is through the use of scripture that parents are mandated to invest in their
children spiritually . Family discipleship is about teaching the word of God through constant

interactions. Christians are expected to follow the example of Jesus in everything they do.
The family must point towards God as the Bible stipulates that he guides his children
with unconditional love. In Mark chapter 10 versus 13-16, the disciples rebuked the children
that were being brought to him. However, when Jesus saw this action, he told his disciples to
allow the children to come to him as they belong to the kingdom of God. In Mathew chapter
