Well we had a good discussion with many good ideas presented, critiqued, and
defended. As with many questions, there is no one and only answer. There are a
series of answers that appeal to different persons who use different standards to
assess them.
I personally lean to the idea that the concept of God as the foundation of ethics
makes the most sense. It seems reasonable to me that there is some source for
our ideas and the concept that the source is a random result of random selection
does not "ring true." This is tied a little to the idea that there can be only one
truth and if our ethical standards were really tied to evolution, then it seems
there might be several good systems that differ in details.
Anyway it was a good week of discussion and I look forward to the next one.
