Joanna, thank you for the very informative and enlightening discussion on how a leader
can be successful by being humble and by relying on Jesus’s way. It was very interesting to see
how your portrayal of a successful leader can use humility and try to still work within the light of
God. Your statement in which you wrote “we live in a society where narcissistic and extroverted
people are successful leaders” (Maradiaga, 2018, paragraph 1) seemed to be more biased vision
rather than a general statement. Many successful leaders are not narcissistic and extroverted but
are more humble and kind, such as Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela and even Prince William.
Having such known leaders within high power, all of these have shown a great deal of kindness
and were more interested in what people thought and what they wanted, rather than what the
leaders wanted for themselves.
There is a significant negative relationship between humble leader behavior and
follower turnover intention…humble leader behavior should be considered as an
important predictor in follower’s positive work-related outcome. Further, the impact of
humble leader behavior on follower turnover intention serves as an important contributor
for verifying the efficiency of humble leadership (Li, Liang & Zhang, 2016, p.1152).
As you mentioned also that leaders should not act better than their employees shows that you
have a great deal of understanding and even some experience on how a leader should act and
how one should not act.
Ephesians 4:31-31 speaks on how to “let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and
slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted,
forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you” (ESV). Having humility is an important
leadership trait because just as this quote spoke, being humble is to be kind to one another and

not harsh and caring for one another like God shows us, rather than serving ourselves and our
wants first. Walters & Diab (2016) write that “humility would allow executives to avoid
problems associated with self-complacency and over confidence, to facilitate organizational
learning, and to develop organizational resilience” (p.8). Taking humility and using it into the
ways of how Jesus’ will and testament has written itself, a leader can show that just like Jesus,
they can lead their people into a better world and life. Walters & Diab (2016) then continue by
stating that “organizations could potentially tackle the issue of low employee engagement by
developing humility in leaders. Additionally… sincerity as a contingency to the success of
humble leadership, it would be worth examining the potential of leader humility as a criterion in
employee selection” (p.15).

With everything that you have brought to light with this discussion board shows that you
understand the topics and content that is being presented with the given weeks. Thank you for
allowing me to see and understand this concept from another light and vision. Do your best to
present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly
handling the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15, ESV).
