Ethics are an important aspect of not just our personal lives, but within our professional
lives as well. Understanding and applying ethics to any business venture is one way to ensure
that the organization will stay on the right path and keep from conducting unethical business
practices. Business ethics is known as the application of ethical principles and standards to any
actions or decisions that organizations make [ CITATION Tho20 \l 1033 ]. To keep businesses
from potential lawsuits, organizations must make sure they are using proper ethical behavior
within their organization as well as the staff they employ within that organization. When
organizations establish and manage ethics within their business, it shows the organization has
values, that they are following the policies and guidelines that are set for the company, and
respect the business they work for or are managing [ CITATION Sal121 \l 1033 ].
Business ethics is one of the most important aspects of an organization’s business plan
and whether they will be successful or not. When businesses choose to conduct business
ethically, it shows that they are putting their consumers first. There are numerous research
articles out that discuss how business ethics are the best way for organizations to conduct their
business. It states that ethical companies have been known to be more profitable, results in lower
stress from managers and their employees. It gives the business a good reputation when values
and business ethics are followed within the organization. Leadership is enhanced when business
ethics are utilized within an business and actually helps businesses in saving money by not
having lawsuits by following the law [ CITATION Bul17 \l 1033 ]. Ethical leaders are said to be
able to help with keeping others on the right track, like those who might feel pressured to do
something unethical, especially for money, or maybe uninformed about what is required to stay
ethical within the organization [ CITATION Bre17 \l 1033 ]. When organizations decide to hire
their leaders and employees, one way to ensure that they will be success is that they follow

ethical behaviors and policies and continue to educate each other on how to maintain those
ethical practices.
Leviticus 19:11 states, “Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another”
[ CITATION Hol97 \l 1033 ]. This verse tells us that we are not to be deceitful. The first part of
the verse speaks on stealing which would include cheating of any kind towards someone. The
second part of this verse speaks on false dealings, which in a business’s case would be
detrimental to their success and their reputation. The third part of the verse speaks on lying to
one another which is another form of false dealings. If we are lying about anything, we are not
providing the truth to someone who might think that we are being truthful with them.
This verse speaks volumes when it comes to the use of business ethics within an
organization. If someone is stealing from the company they work for, another company, or their
peers they were with, it can cause serious repercussions for the organization down the line. This
unethical behavior will hurt the business in the sense that if they are stealing from other
businesses without their knowledge to help gain more revenue or customers for their own
business, this will show the business as an unethical one with poor leadership and management
skills. Issues like fraud can arise from this type of unethical behavior as well if the organization
choose to bribe other companies for information on their competitors’ products to gain advantage
over them. Other forms of unethical business conduct can be asking for donations and
contributions then keeping the money for themselves instead of putting the money towards the
business [ CITATION Alt17 \l 1033 ].
False dealings and lying can go hand in hand. These types of false dealings can come
from an organization lying to their customers about their products or services. If a company
willingly sells a product that they know does not work or is not up to the standards the customer

is hoping for, this is lying and unethical behavior from the business. Customers expect honesty in
order to keep their loyalty to that organization so having a reputable company is vital for its
success [ CITATION Hil19 \l 1033 ]. Companies that continually lie for their personal gain is
another unethical business practice that sometimes is found in the business world. The Bible is
very clear that we are not deceive one another and that we should have integrity in whatever we
are doing. Proverbs 11:3 states this best when it says, “The integrity of the upright guides them,
but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them” [ CITATION Hol97 \l 1033 ].
Organizations need to make sure that strategies are in place and followed so that business
ethics are followed continually within their organization. Companies that establish and follow
policies and guidelines based on ethics are setting their organization up for success, and when
they follow that code of ethics that are put into place sets a good example for their business.
Another way to ensure that organizations are following ethical business practices is to continued
training for their employees. When organizations are providing training on how to conduct
ethical business practices it helps to prevent lawsuits, negative publicity, time wasted, loss of any
revenue, and it helps to keep morale within the organization positive. As long as businesses
continue to practice good business practices and follow their code of ethics that are put into
place, they should be able to have continued success and company with an outstanding
reputation with their industry.
