Week 1: My Discussion
1. Reading the Chapter, one brought back a few thoughts of elements I had challenges with
before I could define with success of comfortable with. I have always said, “My hitting
rock-bottom of the elements of success chart was not a failure, but a goal of success I
wanted to prove to myself I could do, despite the negative vibes I grew up around” I am
able to say I am most comfortable with Self – Awareness ( It is the ability to examine our
own skills, values, interests and behaviors (University of Phoenix, 2021)) now after
many years of struggling and having to do take a hard look within myself to do Self –
Definition and Problem Solving to get to the root of a lot of issues that was affecting my
life and my mental state of mind. I had to self–definition and get where I am today; for I
was blaming and hurting myself, not realizing that a lot had to do with my past. I had to
learn first “Who is Lisette Conti?” I have asked many people many times “What does
(the person's name) want in life? I just never asked myself that question for I never
thought about what I wanted in life for myself. I was asked to take a retreat away from
everyone I loved and away from where I lived. I took the offer and went away to a whole
new state and gave up all connection with the outside world for two weeks. The retreat
was about Self – Discipline, which meant reprogramming my brain to make good
choices, even if my body does not want to do it. I had to learn to do the uncomfortable
things if I want to learn to live a long-term success. I took the first uncomfortable step by
going to the retreat and walking away from my family and doing something for myself
with no regrets. I learned I can improve my mental health by problem solving and self–
definition. I learned it is okay to want to achieve my long-term goals for it are not selfish.
I learned to be more self–aware that helped me become healthier physically. I learned a
lot of other skills that have become my routine for everyday life; to help me keep on track
so I do not lose Lisette again. The only element of success I find challenging for the
moment right now is financial success; I had gotten into a car accident that caused me to
have to get back surgery which did not go successfully. I have been placed on disability
for the time being. I am using this time to go to school; change my career and graduate.
Then find a career placement and rebuild my financial goal and buy my house, car and
open my Youth center as I strive in my career to be the best I could be.
2. I feel self-awareness is especially important for if you do not know who you are; no one
will ever know the real you. It is important for when you know yourself; you will realize
your worth and will never allow yourself to not strive for what you feel you are worthy or
deserve. To recognize your strengths and weaknesses is helpful to grow and feel
confident in improving what weakness that you feel is holding your ability to achieve
your goals and dreams. If I keep to my routine and look over my awareness
questionnaire, we as a group monthly in my household; I will be sure to be my best
cheerleader and look over the accomplishments I have achieved over the years. I do
remind myself I am not where I want to be yet, but I will be. I have a small obstacle
placed in my way; but “By the Grace of God” I will get where I want to be and be happy
for, I have worked hard to get there with “No Regrets, Just Lessons Learned!”

Week 1; Response 1 (Shawn Roberts)
It is impressive that you can adapt to challenges and setbacks. That is another element you have,
self-discipline, which I find interesting in that it is your challenging element. It is good you are
confident in yourself to be able to bounce back. I would love to know what type of mindset skills
you use to help you come to the place you are mentally to be able to resilience. If you can focus
on obstacles and break down the task into steps; why not do the same with things that must be
done, treat your everyday routines like it's a project that has a deadline. Make a list of what must
be done, starting with the most important to least important, and give yourself a timeline and
deadline when it must be done. That way no other task will matter, and you will not
procrastinate.
Your Self-awareness is one point and very well said. You know what you need to do for
yourself. Once, you find the key to Make better choices aligned with my values and
priorities and develop more effective habits and routines (Shawn, 2024) you will find
your strength in Self- Discipline element and become stronger in your Resilience. I
believe this course will help you find your inner strength you did not know you had and
make you a better person than I am sure you are now.
Week 1: Response: (Kayla Gray)
Kayla, I really want you to do me a favorite; I want you to look at what you have over
came and what helped you mentally got you through those long days and nights of an
empty cell. I know for experience that those times are times of thoughts that are not
friendly; you are here and here for a reason, so I know that your struggle you claim is
your challenge is really a strength you do not realize you have. You also have other
successful elements that have helped you overcome and to become who you were once
upon a time ago. I know your awareness has been overlooked many times and I know
that you have thought many times if you are worthy of a good life; I am glad that you
have found happiness within yourself. I want you to TRY hard to look in the mirror and
from A-To-Z name something POSTIVE you LOVE about yourself! Just remember you
have come a long way; and if no one tells you enough YOU ARE AMAZING & WORTHY of
a happy life for you are NOT who you were at one time, you made that change to make
your life what it is! POSTIVE VIBES ALWAYS! I'm here if you ever need a cheerleader!!!!
Week 2: My Response
A) My daughter inspires me to be the best version of myself; for my daughter has how
she changed her ways and grew up instantly once she found out she was pregnant; she found out
she was to raise her baby without a baby father. She never wanted to become a single mom, but
She did not allow it to bring her down. She did what she had to do; once her daughter was born,
which was during the pandemic. She was sure to get everything she needed for her baby; she
found herself a job once the pandemic ended, pushed through her training and changed her
schedule to wake up every day and go to work. She takes care of her daughter by herself
financially, she makes sure her daughter has her mom and daughter time, and she is there for her
daughter emotionally to fill the void of her father; I help her the best I can.
B) I am inspired for she reminds me of myself when I became a single mom the first time
when I was twenty with two children eleven months apart; after their father went into the service
and told me he wanted nothing to do with us anymore. I did not know what to do with the two
children, it was different when it was me alone. I had to make a choice either allow things that
matter to take me down or pick up my head, plan and strive for a better future. This situation was
not about me; I had to act for my children's sake. I had to set out to be sure my children had what
they needed and did not suffer from what we were going through.
C) My attitude towards school would be 10; if it being the highest, I could go. I love that
I can go back to school and learn things I know but do not realize it is in my brain and just
needed help to be brought out. I know that I have always wanted to be the first and only child of
my father to go to college. I am not have gone when people think it was the time; but I went
when time was pretended to me to go. There is no time when you must go or law where you are
not allowed to attend to a certain age. Chodos to anyone who goes back that is over 50 and over,
like me for people feel our brains are fried. No, we are still alive and kicking with hopes and
dreams. D) I believe in Self-expectancy is the concept of believing, or even expecting, your
actions will lead to a specific outcome (Vroom, 1964). It is a general belief you can achieve what
you set out to do and effort will lead to success. This belief influences the goals you set, the
effort you put into them, and the way you handle challenges that might arise. (University of
Phoenix (2021).
E) When I face challenges, my attitude automatically goes to serious mode, and I get very
silent. I must take a moment to gather my thoughts and look at the situation and figure out if it is
in my control to be able to do something about it. I was faced with a challenge last Friday; the
situation was not a challenge until Tuesday morning when my class was to start. I was not given
a class because of an issue out of my control. I do not allow anything to stop me from doing what
I want; I will do what I must do to get what I want. I must keep my goals in sight for I plan to
always strive high to get where I want to be; for there is nothing stopping me from reaching.
F) My attitude turned into determination mode; I got on the phone to whomever could
help me to clear the situation so I could be cleared for my class. I have learned over the years
how to handle being aggressive, impulsive and fast paced. I had to learn to clear my mind and
look to see if the situation was in my control or out of my control. If there is something I can do,
start doing it. If the situation is out of my control, I must come to terms that there is nothing I
could do and just pray all will work itself out or just leave it in God’s hands.

Week 2: Response: Shaelynn Fuller
Being a foster child myself, you must realize that we are amazing and
determined people. We are the ones who have a reliable source of inspiration we do not
see within ourselves at times. We do not give ourselves enough credit for our hard work
to get where we are and be sure the ones we love do not ever feel what we did growing
up. It is good to hear that school has given you a sense of freedom and opportunities. I
want you to know that you have overcame a lot of the years and have learned from
your past how to live and not live for your future. Your education and experience will
help you become great at your career you get into for you have the passion within your
heart. Keep up the demanding work of being the strong person who has overcome the
past to become the better version of yourself. Our past does not define who we are; it
builds character for us to be better than what we do not want to be. Stay Strong and
Head Up for you are one of the good ones.
Week 3: My Response
A) I have always been an early bird; I make it my business to wake up a half an hour before
everyone, so I have time for myself to get ready and not rush and look like a chicken without a
head. I make sure the night before I have all my stuff placed on my desk for school, my notes,
make sure my granddaughter's bookbag is packed. I have her clothes as well as mine picked out
and hung up where we could grab them and get dressed. In the bathroom I have her little set up
for her when I am done, so she can go in and wash up and brush her teeth. We have a timer I set
for her, which is 30 minutes. When that goes off, she should be ready to go downstairs, where I
am already making breakfast. Another timer is set for 30 minutes, when that goes off, we are out
the door on our way to school. My timer when I drop her off is from when I walk in until one
hour before I pick her up from school.
B) I feel my strategy works well and successful because I have been taught as a young girl how
to be on time for my father was like a drill sergeant. He had time for everything that had to be
done, so I pretty much adapted to that pattern. I just learned to make it a little more routine and
not a job; and my granddaughter has gotten used to it. It keeps everything organized and under
control, we make a race out of it as well. She tries to beat me by going downstairs before
breakfast is done. I know I have plenty of time if needed for any unexpected events because I set
the timers and know exactly the time we must be at school, and I am always sure we have 30
minutes' free time if needed. I have always had a schedule made for my father was a drill Sergent
type of man. I always had a routine growing up, so I got used to being told what time to do this,
do that, eat, sleep and play.
C) There are many reasons why people procrastinate, I have lived with a procrastinator for many
years now. I have been trying to help to get the person to avoid procrastination; it is a process. I
have learned that the distractions in a person's life are one reason for procrastination. Examples
like social media, being on the phone, or making excuses up. Another reason the person
procrastinates is they don't want to do something, for they don't know how to do it, or the person
may lack motivation to complete unpleasant tasks.
Something I am working on to help the person to avoid procrastinating is dividing big tasks into
smaller ones; so, it doesn’t seem so overwhelming. Work from easier to hardest to work up to
mindset strength. Put the phone away when it is time to start a task, allow nothing to be a
distraction and work for five minutes then another five minutes; build up timing until you finish
what you start.
D) My goal is to graduate to work with children within a school district or child welfare to
families do not lose their families. I would like to open my own youth center to help the next
generation to feel safe and have some place to go where they could find a job, help if they are
homeless, have addiction or just need to feel they have a family and a place of belonging. I know
I could do it; I must just be my Optimistic self and keep my eye on the prize. I always must be
sure all will be right; I question my purpose to be sure it is right and that others will suppose me.
I like facts, solidness and nothing to get in my way of something good to manifest for the next
generation. I want to be sure time, effect and love will be given from others and myself, for these
are lives who will depend on me, so I must be passionate from day one.
The Smart goal I have for myself is Realistic: The fourth element of SMART goal
setting is to ensure the goal is realistic. A realistic goal is one that is relevant and focuses on your
purpose. Realistic goals also consider factors and constraints that can help you achieve the goal
or derail your efforts. Initially, this might sound like the criteria that make a goal achievable, but
there are differences (University of Phoenix, 2021))

Week 3: Response: Brett Mcconville
It is exceptionally good you have disciplined yourself to become extremely
focused and learned what is best for you and how you could share with others to be
able to take on small tasks and organize their life with great focus.
Interestingly, you used the Pomodoro technique, I have heard of it when I was
being tested for ADHD; I had an egg timer to see if I could stay focused on a task for as
long as 25 minutes and then longer each session. It doesn't matter if people know about
that technique because it is not used so much anymore like when I was growing up.
I believe that if you do a workout long you will be able to keep your focus and
keep the timer going. You will reach your fitness goal. You have a great focus and
disciplined mind to succeed in your future. I know you will graduate with excellent
grades for your determination shows. Good luck in your future!
Week 3: Response: Davis Rogers
I read your discussion and just some advice; do not overwhelm yourself with a big list of
things you have to do, so you do not feel that you did not complete what you feel is not
important because I am sure everything is important if it is on a list. Give yourself a time limit
for each task, so you can complete all you have to do. When you start your pre-med program,
you will really need to learn to block out distractions and set up routine. I have watched a friend
learn to change her way of learning and teach herself to set herself a straightforward goal and use
her time more wisely when it came to school and getting things done right to help strive for her
goal.
From all I read I know you will be remarkably successful and reach your goal with
extremely ambitious standards for yourself. I know that you will strive to do well in all your
classes for you have your mindset in order and clear on your goal. I wish you much success and
success in your future.
Week 4: My Response:
Can stress be positive? g). Why or why not?
The benefits I would like to see in my own life as I start my 4- step problem
solving process would have to be more progress, more peace of mind, lack of stress
and more solutions without the built up of extra problems. I have a lot of Faith and
Belief in God for without His Grace I would have NOT made it this far in life. I am a
survivor of many different problems.
Depending on what I am stressing about my symptoms are different; if it is
not major, I will get a slight headache for I start to overthink. My body will ache,
stiffen up and start to hurt. If my stress is major, I go into a panic attack, my breathing
gets back, I sweat, and my anxiety starts as well. I start to listen to Spiritual music,
start to meditation until I calm down. If that does not work fast enough my son comes
and talks me down to calm level.
I try my hardest to stay away from my trigger and start my day with prayer
and meditation. I listen to my spiritual music throughout the day to keep myself calm
and relaxed as much as possible.
Some implications in my personal life would be mental health, and high blood pressure.
Professionally I have a lot of Empathy allows you to recognize others’ emotions and to respond
in an appropriate way (Craig, 2021) for I work with student and a lot of them come from
different situations so I do my best to understand why they act out or not understand somethings
and other situations out of their control for they have no understand of what is going on within
themselves.
Self-regulation depends on your ability to be self-aware of how your actions might affect
others and to consider how to appropriately express your emotions (Craig, 2021). I find that self–
regulation helps me out a lot in my daily mental state to cope with myself as well as my stress.
Can help reduce stress to help focus on important goals and important things in life that stress is
taking away.
Good stress can be positive in small bursts; it helps stay inspired. Anything more stressful
is harmful physically, mentally and emotionally.

Week 4: Response: Shawn Roberts
You have taken step one to your procrastination; you recognize it. That is a big step;
sometimes you may just feel overwhelmed because you have so much gone on in your
life. I know it is hard at times to just do what you must do when it must be done; you can
do it later. Sometimes, you do not realize later is not promised so try hard not to put off
your future goals and dreams. Everything that must be done is part of your future
remember that. “A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down
into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dreams come true.”
(Attributed to Greg S. Reid) I always believed those words spoke loud and clear to me, I
hope it helps you out! I know that you will complete all you have to do to help your
future and make your life successful. You must just be sure to plan and write down what
must be done as a to Do List and set a time it must be complete. I know you have the
strength to change your ways to be positive and not feel as you do. Just ask one day at a
time and do as much as you can for if it takes one minute to say no, that minute it could
have been done already.
Week 5: My Response:
Visualization is a powerful skill that one can use to help achieve one's goals. If we are
allowing ourselves to focus our attention and energy on what we want to carry out. When we
visualizing our desired outcome, we can create a mental image of what our success will look
like, and this will help motivate us. I have always been known as a Spiritualist, I believe in
manifesting what you want in life.; with that said some evidence suggests that visualization can
help to manifest our desires by creating a positive mindset and attracting positive energy. With
the right mindset and positive energy, it will bring opportunities and resources into our lives that
support us in achieving our goals. It is especially important to realize that visualization alone is
not enough to achieve our goals. We must not just speak about it; we must act towards our goals
and make a conscious effort to create the outcomes we want. We must use both Intrinsic
motivation causes you to act without receiving any obvious external rewards. You might find
internal value in learning, exploring, or achieving something that helps you reach your potential
(Cherry, 2019, para. 3). Extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, is encouraged by factors outside
of yourself. If you act with extrinsic motivation, you are striving to reach an external reward
(Cherry, 2021, para. 1). Visualization can help us to clarify our goals and stay focused, but we
must also be willing to put in the work and take the necessary steps to make our dreams a reality.
Self – Awareness (It is the ability to examine our own skills, values, interests and
behaviors (University of Phoenix, 2021)) and Impulse control is the ability to restrain the desire
to at once satisfy an urge. Your brain’s prefrontal cortex helps you plan, make decisions, regulate
emotions, and suppress urges (Kuchinskas, 2010) is something I will use to increase your level
of self-discipline in your life? I must look reflect on Who am I and What am I meant to do!
I must ask myself questions to see what it is. I must work to achieve my goals and help
my dreams come true. I must not just feed into my urges to just do something without
thinking it out and being sure it is right for me. I must take time to manifest what it is I
want not to wish or need for not everything is needed to have in life.
University of Phoenix. (2021). PSY/110: Psychology of learning. Zyante Inc
Week 5: Response: Sharon McNeely, Ph.D
Yes, I do think that building myself discipline will also help build my self-esteem and self-
confidence i to meet your life goals? It will help me with Positive reinforcement, one of my
coping skills has to do with overcome challenges and temptations, it helps boosts my confidence
in my abilities to achieve more. I believe in Self-expectancy is the concept of believing, or even
expecting, your actions will lead to a specific outcome (Vroom, 1964). It is a general belief you
can achieve what you set out to do and effort will lead to success. The i discipline myself the
greater my sense of self-respect and personal pride. The more i practice my coping skills of self-
discipline the better i get with my self-image. I start to see myself in a more positive way. The
more I want to prove to myself I can achieve a goal I started and must finish; not quit like i may
have years ago. Achieving a small goal helps my self-discipline; it provides me with proof of my
self-worth. What I can do once I apply myself and trust myself to know I can and must do what
will benefit me and make me a better me.
Week5: Anthony (cue) Smith
I see that you have been through a lot in your life and your strategy to take on the future is self-
discipline; just know that you have to be sure to make sure you check in with your self-
awareness. I have been through a lot since I was young. I had to do a lot of self-awareness for I
had to get my life in order and stable enough for myself to handle for no one else could live my
life for me. I know that it is not easy, and life gives us a lot of challenges and obstacles to get
over and past to get where we want to be in life. I know that you can do whatever you put your
mind to; you have taken the massive step by signing up for school to have a better life. Do not
allow yourself to give up and doubt yourself from your worth and have your self-respect and
personal pride be put down or second guess yourself. I know you can do it, and I really wish you
much success and happiness in your future. Your past will help you be the best you can ever be
for you have experience to allow you to have passion and empathy.
