I find myself getting most of my news from television along with social media such
as Facebook and twitter. I analyze what I hear and view by knowing where the
information is coming from and what company they are working for. A lot of news
media outlets have stigmas attached to them which help guide me in the direction of
what news is credible and what isn’t. When I see an article that I want to read, I first
look at the authenticity of the company, and author and then read into how they are
gathering their facts. I apply critical thinking in knowing what companies produce
credible information and what articles are trying to clickbait you by spreading false
information.!
The best and most involved way I’m involved in the governmental process is by
voting as well as spreading real news on social media to help those around me with
credible information. It’s tough for people like my grandparents who believe
everything they read on the internet is true, so they look forward to good information
from me. I like to speak my opinions and create debates on social media about
political propositions, so I can gather multiple sides of view to help me open my mind
to learning news way to think.!
The biggest fallacy I see is watching tv ads which include celebrities promoting
brands as payed spokesmen to get you to buy their products. For example, when the
R&B artist Drake in a commercial wasn’t feeling it or in the mood in the recording
studio, a cold Sprite happened to fire him up and produce one of his biggest songs of
his career. I have the vision to see these are paid advertisements to intrigue their
audience into purchasing their product. I use this vision to make smart decisions in
everyday life.!
My favorite concepts from this class have been the 5 characteristics to a good
argument. Being in the business world and negotiating a lot, I will use more of these
characteristics to become better balanced for my customers.!Overall, I enjoyed this
course as it has made us learn to think more critically about everything in everyday
life.
