A few different ways that the supermarket chain could incorporate farm-to-table principles is to
use local farms. Using local growers will reduce the cost of transporting the products and reduce
the product damage. This will promote pride in the customers that are most likely employees of
the local farm. We could encourage reusable bags and designate an area for compost. The
compost can be used by the local farmers or by the customers to continue organic growing.
Along with partnering with local growers, request that they be certified to uphold the highest
standards of our company such as Institute of Food Technologist (IFT) certified food Scientists.
For those that may not have the funds like the bigger competitors, we can incorporate a system
to assist them with the expense in return of discount of product volume. Giving back to the
community and reducing carb on footprint are priceless. The risks of incorporating this change
will require an initial expense but it will be beneficial in the long term. The selection of product
variety will be decreased, and we increase the risk of volume depletion during natural disasters in
the local area.
