6-2 Short Paper: Medicating Children
In my opinion, children and adolescents with ADHD and/or EBD should only be treated
with psychotropic medications if absolutely necessary. By increasing or decreasing chemicals
(neurotransmitters) in the brain, psychotropic medications are used to treat the symptoms of
certain mental health disorders. Children and adolescents with ADHD or EBD may exhibit
disorganized thinking or psychotic symptoms due to psychological and social variables. And
these psychotropic medications are used to aid in treating anxiety and difficulties with both
