• The Turing test is not the right way to approach the idea of
intelligence. This is because just because a machine is able to
imitate intelligent behavior, it does not imply that it is
intelligent. For example, the ELIZA program managed to act like
an intelligent being by mimicking a psychologist (Gendler,
2021). So, in case a human is having a conversation with a
computer which is interacting like another fellow human, the
computer cannot be considered to be intelligent. This is because
it might be programed to interact in a certain way, but that does
not improve its level of intelligence.
• Human thinking and machine computing are similar in terms of
the function of the memory since both rely on data or
information that is stored in order to generate an output. Both
rely on memory to effectively think or make computations.
However, human thinking and machine computing are
significantly different from one another. While machine
computing relies on a set of programs or instructions, human
thinking is a highly complex activity. Human thinking relies on a
wealth of knowledge as well as intuition to think on a subject in
a logical manner.
• It is not possible for computers to ever think or be as intelligent
as human beings. This is because the intelligence of human
beings is not the result of neurons that exist in the brain. It is
also influenced by an intangible spark that exists in the core.
Human intelligence is influenced by their consciousness. It is an
inherited element that lacks in the case of computers. On the
other hand, even though computers have huge memories and
possess high mimicking abilities, they lack consciousness. Due
to this, a computer might fail to respond to simple expressions
like ‘umm’ or sudden pauses.
• The concept of human intelligence or artificial intelligence can
be applied to the programmic course theme of ‘emotional
intelligence.’ As human beings are conscious, they have the
ability to demonstrate emotional intelligence towards others
and behave in an empathetic manner. Their ability to assess a
situation or the emotions of a person can enable them to act in a
compassionate manner. On the contrary, a machine might not
be able to showcase emotional intelligence as it might not be
conscious of the emotions and feelings of others with whom it is
interacting. Emotional intelligence is specific to humans since it
involves the ability to correctly reason about emotions and use
emotional knowledge to shape thoughts (Snow, 2021).
