Being raised by a baby boomer, that was raised by parents that grew up
during the depression, we had a lot of radio and print in our house
growing up. We read the paper daily and listened to the radio for
important news updates. We had limited TV growing up since where I
grew up, we were unable to have cable until 1991; we had antenna, but
the reception wasn't great or dependable. As a member of the Gen X, I
still rely heavily on radio, but with the decline of print, I now rely more
on TV for my source of marketing media. For this discussion I will be
focusing on TV and Radio.
o What is the appeal of each of your chosen channels to these
target audiences?
Baby Boomers - born years of 1946-1964 radio was more
affordable than a TV at this time and were in the majority of
homes due to the affordability. Today Boomers are more
than likely retired or caring for parents and the use of radio
is easier for them as they can listen on the go to news
(Creating Results, 2010), and other forms of advertising or
enjoy a pod cast.
Millennials - born years of 1981-1995 they are more likely
to use the internet for the "printed" media needs. They also
have more interaction with tablets, cell phones, social media
(Zoellers, 2022). This is an easier, faster way to get their
information.
Generation X - born years of 1965-1980 use email for their
print, and appreciate the coupon savings that are included,
being children of boomers, they appreciate a good deal.
(Sparklight, ND).
Generation Z - This generation 1997-2012 and they have
the shortest attention span of just 8 seconds (Cooper,
2019); and the traditional TV or print isn't going to work
with them. They need the new technology of tiktok videos
and youtube, quick and to the point.
Based on your selection, describe one creative or innovative form
of traditional marketing you have come across personally.
o How did this creative or innovative approach influence your
purchasing decision?
I appreciate marketing that I generally see on TV, so mainly
commercials, but they need to have a point. At the end of an ad if I have
to ask myself what that was for, then clearly, I am not their target
market and I didn't understand their campaign. The most recent ad that
stands out was for toilet paper, and honestly I can't remember the
brand, I think it was one of the top, either Quilted Northern or Angel
Soft that basically asked if your current TP makes you feel like you used
a porcupine, which then brought back memories of my grandma,
because she used the cheapest, roughest TP you could buy. I literally
laughed out load and called my dad, because that was one thing that
growing up, he actually spent money on.
Share two "top" ideas to be considered for marketing the brand
connected to Milestone Two in Module Six.
A few ideas for marketing the amusement park that I think could have
an impact are promotional contests to win free tickets. Another
marketing idea was to offer room and foods with local hotels to drive
the customers to stay for multiple days so they spend more money.
These could be offered via email, web page, QFR code, really any digital
marketing would work, people, regardless of their generation will enter
contests if they think they can win something.
o Include one idea each for the following areas: consumer research
and SEO.
Consumer research and our main target being families with kids ages
(ages 6-18) I would aim at targeting social media such as Facebook,
Instagram, TikTok that all of that age group in currently using daily. That
way when an ad, or promotional program comes up they can enter
easily or share with their parents knowing a trip is on the horizon. i
