Leadership behaviors that are needed to improve the work environment are
building trust in their employees, recognizing an employee’s
accomplishments and empowering employees. Building trust in a leader and
employee relationship is key to allowing the employee to flourish in their
skills and handle challenges with confidence. Recognizing accomplishments
also builds trust, but also confidence in the employee. It resounds with the
entire team that their contributions are acknowledged to the company’s
success. Empowering an employee to handle challenges allows them to
become creative and learn from their mistakes. This will shape them into a
well-rounded employee and their leader must insist that they are fully capable
in making decisions on their own.
What leadership skills would you recommend including in your
organizational leader's toolkit to develop the identified leadership behaviors?
Within the toolkit the leadership skills that should be included are
motivation, enthusiasm, and confidence. Motivation is necessary to develop
empowerment in an employee’s ability to succeed in their role. Enthusiasm
also helps motivate employees towards goals and the leader’s excitement in
an accomplishment provides sincerity and a positive enforcement.
Confidence must be exuded from the leader to the employee for them to trust
each other. The leader must display confidence in their employee’s abilities
and confidence in the vision of the organization.
How will improvements in the recommended leadership skills and behaviors
improve organizational performance? Improvements in these skills and
behaviors will improve organizational performance by creating a sense of
unity within the team and the drive to move forward towards a goal. This
will reduce employee turnover and the organization will achieve long term
benefits if they invest the time and energy into shaping their leaders. A
leader must provide guidance and encouragement for their employee to
achieve optimum performance.
