The employee satisfaction survey and assignments we have completed has led me to focus on the
need for improvement in manager´s credibility, recognition of employees, and empowerment of
employees.
Manager's Credibility f
¨Credibility is the foundation of leadership, if people do not believe in the messenger, they won´t
believe in the message¨ (Kouzes & Posner, 2003). Employees in the organization do not have trust in
their supervisors as directly pointed out in the negative results to the ¨I trust my supervisor¨
question. All the effort to improve leadership in the organization will be useless if the supervisors do
not gain credibility in their employee's eyes. Even improved recognition of employees will be ignored
by employees if they do not believe the person giving the recognition is credible. The credibility will
also address the ¨My Supervisor talks with me to help me determine my training and development
goals¨ along with the ¨Provides Leadership who act in just and ethical ways¨. Trust and respect are
earned daily and obviously the employees do not have either for their supervisors. Improvement in
the manager´s credibility will have an immediate impact and will reflect positivity on the next
employee satisfaction survey. f ¨Without credibility you may end up being a leader of one - yourself¨
(Gordon, 2019).
Recognition of Employees
Lack of recognition in employees is evident in the entire Recognition & Praise and Reward &
Recognition focus areas. f Some of the lowest favourable responses came in these focus areas, and the
largest negative trends are identified in this focus area. Improvement in recognition or having a
¨Encourage the Heart¨ mentality will give employees a feeling of worth. Both formal and informal
recognition will result in improved productivity along with more positive results in the next employee
satisfaction survey.
Empowerment of Employees
The results to the question ¨My Job make good use of my skills and abilities¨ and ¨I feel encouraged to
come up with new and better ways of doing things¨ show that employees feel under-utilized. What
we do not from the survey is the level of the employees who participated. Entry level employees
often feel underutilized since their potential talent expands past their job experience. However,
empowering employees is going to increase supervisor´s credibility, as it shows the supervisor is
putting trust in their employees. The satisfaction survey shows us that employees are proud to work
in this organization, but they do not feel like they are contributing.
