continuestobesomuchpushbackregardingimplementinguniversalhealthcareforall
Americans.Therehavebeenseveralorganizationsthatopposeasingle-payerhealthinsurance
system,mostnotablytheAmericanMedicalAssociation(AMA).InJuneof2019,theAMA,which
isthelargestphysiciangroupinAmerica,advisedthattheUnitedStatesshouldcontinue
developingtheAffordableCareAct(ACA)toprovidehealthcoveragetothosegoingwithout
(Finnegan,2020).Pushbackcanalsoariseasamatterofpublicopinion;aswiththeever-
increasingminimumwagearguments,therearethosethatbelievethataccesstohealth
insuranceisaprivilege,notaright.Thesebeliefscancomeasaresultofpoliticalideology,
ascribingtomantraslike“pullyourselfupbyyourbootstraps,”orequatingpaststruggleswith
payingone’sduestolife.
Governmentpoliticsandcapitalismhavethelargestroles,inmyopinion,inpreventing
universalhealthcareforallAmericans.HealthinsuranceisbigbusinessintheUnitedStates;
