Curriculum
▶ Venice Family Clinic’s Street
Medicine Program was established
in 2007 as a subdivision of the
Homeless Health Care Services
dating back to 1985(VFC, 2021)
▶ The program utilizes a
multidisciplinary approach.
Clinicians, Social Workers,
Housing Navigators, and
Addiction Specialist (VFC,2021)
▶ The program currently consists of
nine teams with eleven health care
clinicians (VFC, 2021).

California has the highest population
of homeless in the country.
Research statistics show that
homeless individuals have an
alcohol abuse rate of 38% and an
illicit drug abuse rate of 26%
(Mosel, 2022). The cost of
providing these services is $600
billion annually across the nation
(NIDA, 2020).
Emergency Rooms are the most
utilized type of services for this
population and is more expensive to
provide treatment (Caires, 2017)
Mobile Health Clinics are being
utilized more frequently to provide
necessary healthcare to the
homeless population (Heath, 2019)
Proposal

Van, the program has
provided care to over 1,000
more people in the streets.

expand
and
provide quality healthcare to
those in need, the
department has proposed a
purchase of a 2021 Ford
Transit 250 Cargo Van with
High Roof.
