The organization I chose for the Final Project is Juvenile Justice Center of
Philadelphia. A client-facing role from this organization is Youth Intervention
Specialist. The role of the Youth Intervention Specialist is to mentor and
supervise youth in the aftercare evening resource center. YIS also support
youth while in the program and outside such as community service projects.
The YSI will encourage youth and ensure they are participating in community
service projects. Intervention Specialist interacts with youth involved in the
program, their families and the professionals present in the youth's life to
maintain close contact and develop a positive rapport in order to complete the
requirements and help set goals for the youth to achieve.
This role relates to the helping process because the YIS must be prepared and
assess the clients they will be servicing. The YIS will greet the clients and
make the clients aware of what is expected. They will also provide a stable
environment of the youth in order to build a trustful relationship. The YIS role
relates to the helping process because the YIS will explore the clients
problems. During the helping process the intervention strategies takes place
when the client and the helper set goals and decide how the goals will be
reached. An important role of the YIS is to intervene. This is a major role
because the YIS will help the youth set goals that are attainable. Overall, the
role of the YIS relates to the helping process because the YIS will follow steps
and strategies that will help the youth with their problems and work towards
preventing the need of services in the future.
