• What challenges are present in the scenario, and what are some
steps that can be taken to address them?
The challenges in the scenario are the laptop has become missing, so
therefore valuable information has now been compromised by
another person who should not have access to this information. The
laptop should have never been left unattended no matter if I asked a
colleague to watch it or not, because who to say they will watch it. I
should have taken the laptop with me, no matter where I was going. I
made the right choice by contacting tech support and letting them
know the computer has been lost, however, I need to go further with
this, and look around on the plane and in the terminal. Let security
and the airport know that a computer has been taken and see if it has
been turned in or if they can help find this computer.
• What is the relationship between ethics and policy? Do they
always match up with one another?
Ethics: Ethics is a moral system concerned with what is right for
individuals and society.
Policy: The Policy is a set of regulations and directives intended to be
distinct from morals and ethics and implemented by social institutions
and private organizations.
Based on a content analysis of code of ethics to define the latter
polices and on regression analyses on 808 firm‐year observations, our
results show that board of directors' independence is positively
related to code of ethics policies related to communication with
employees. (Furlotti, K., & Mazza, T. (2020).
I do not believe they match up at all, honestly. Unfortunately, people
find ways to go against the system, and do things their own ways. It
may or may not be the correct way, and then that’s when we have
data breaches and compromised information, that leads to HIPPA
violations.
• If individual ethics do not align with organizational policy, what
might be the end result?
Point blank you will be fired!
