• The Healthcare Quality Improvement Act has been introduced by Congressman
Ron Wyden. The Act immunes the healthcare professionals who participate in the
resolution of healthcare standards and other staff-privileging issues in the healthcare
setting (Nowakowski et al., 2016). It discourages any litigation against the healthcare
professionals participating in the peer review process. The main purpose of the Act was to
enhance the quality of healthcare delivered to the patients by encouraging physicians to
effectively identify as well as discipline the incompetent physicians or those engaging in
unprofessional behavior. Under the Act, the physicians performing the peer review will be
protected against litigation from physicians who lose privileges in the hospitals.
The credentialing process plays an important role in the delivery of quality
healthcare services to patients. Credentialing can be defined as the process of verifying the
academic qualifications as well as the clinical practice theory of the healthcare providers.
It is important in order to ensure that the patient receives the highest quality of care. It
provides the patients with an assurance that they are being treated by the healthcare
providers who have the qualifications, experience, and license to deliver care services
(Bhimji & Sharma, 2018). It improves the quality of care provided to the patients and
enhances their safety.
• The Medical Staff Bylaws play an important role in the healthcare setting. The
bylaws provide healthcare organizations with the required guidance in order to ensure the
delivery of quality care to patients. The bylaws ensure that healthcare providers deliver
safe and competent care to the patients (Bhimji & Sharma, 2018). They serve as a self-
governance structure for the physicians and other medical staff. It outlines the protocols as
well as policies of the healthcare organizations relating to emergency room processes,
admissions, and others. The Medical Staff Bylaws also outline the necessary qualifications

for privileges and memberships, conflict resolution process, decision-making methods, and
emergency corrective actions.
It is important for healthcare facilities to have a peer review process in place
(Bader et al., 2021). Peer review can be defined as the process in which healthcare
professionals evaluate the quality of work delivered by their colleagues and ensure that the
set healthcare standards are being met. It is vital to have a peer review process as it can
bring to light any unprofessionalism in the healthcare setting and identify the incompetent
healthcare providers. It can help in enhancing the quality of care delivered to the patients
and increasing their security.
• The mission of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Act is to
enhance the safety of the workers and provide them with a healthy working environment
in the healthcare setting. It deals with providing training, education, and enforcing the
safety requirements and standards. The Act affects my personal responsibility in the
healthcare setting in a number of ways. It makes me more aware of the safety and health
of the workers in the healthcare setting. It enables me to evaluate the hazardous and
unsafe condition of the hospital and adopt appropriate measures in order to promote the
safety and well-being of the workers within the healthcare setting.
