Some improvements that have been to ICD-11 are a new user-friendly format and multilingual
capabilities that will reduce the chance of error. ICD-11 also improves the clarity of terms for the
general public and facilitates the coding of important details such as the spread of a cancer or the
exact site and type of a fracture. ICD-11 also includes updated diagnostic recommendations for
mental health for mental health conditions and digital documentation for covid-19 certificates.
These updates reflect recent progress in medicine and advances in scientific understanding. ICD-11
is also more capable of capturing data on health-care safety, by identifying and reducing
unnecessary events that may harm health such as unsafe workflows in hospitals. In additional to
coding and capabilities updates, ICD-11 includes new chapters on traditional medicine, sexual
health, and gaming disorder, this has now been added to the section on addictive disorders.
Qualities of ICD-11 that would benefit a country if they adopted is, the progress in medicine and
advances in scientific understanding. This will help doctors with treatments for diseases. Now that
covid has impacted the world, ICD-11 will help respond to the pandemic using standardized data
and track progress towards universal health coverage. There are several improvements with the
roll out of ICD-11. ICD-11 is now completely electronic and allows access to 17,000 diagnostic
categories and 100,000 medical diagnostic terms. There are more than 1.6 million terms to search.
The clinical content has improved with ICD-11. ICD-11 is free to call countries, can be installed
easily, and can be used online or offline with a download. One of the major improvements is the
ability to code accurately with ease and it requires less user training. ICD-11 has been designed to
work in various IT-environments. Information within ICD-11 has bee updated to reflect modern
science and medicine along with the most up-to-date information on prevention of disease and
disease treatment. ICD-11 also provides a platform where users can suggest changes or additions
to be made. There are new core chapters with new supplementary chapters. ICD-11 provides new
clinical precision codes to allow more accurate coding with the ability to record data more in-
depth.
For countries looking to adopt ICD-11, this would be their best opportunity yet. ICD-11 allows for
more standardization across the board where data can be collected and understood cohesively
between countries. It will be available for use where it has not been possible to use before. ICD-11
is free for all countries. ICD-11 would also provide countries with the ability to be able to count
and analyze data to identify their most troublesome health issues. There is a translation tool that
easily provides accurate translations with the addition of local terms. The improvement that has
been made to ICD-11 is that the everything is more organized. ICD-11 is more reliable compared
to that of ICD-10. There are more diagnostic categories, as well as criteria to search for within ICD-
11. The chapters are formatted differently by the way they are structured together. ICD-11 is more
user-friendly making it easier to use and find what you are looking for. Some qualities of a country
looking to adopt this coding system would be it improving the quality of patient care. Also,
anything that would further improve technology would be beneficial to a country.
With the revision from ICD-10 to ICD-11 comes much needed enhancements. ICD-11 is completely
electronic. There is an increase of meaningful clinical content. It is available for online and offline
use and has become more user friendly with functionality to improve accuracy. All rare disease is
listed and functionality pre and post intervention can be monitored. The multi-lingual support and
built-in user guide will be beneficial to a country looking to adopt it. ICD-11 also has cluster coding
which allows two or more ICD-11 codes to be combined in order to describe a clinical concept
(AAPC 2021). All these improvements allow worldwide inclusivity by breaking down language and
clinical terminology barriers.
ICD was put into place to allow for providers to share information across the world. There have
been 10 versions released before 11 with the first being in 1992. This new version, 11, is entirely
digital and has multilingual capabilities. The input on this version has come from over 90 countries
and numerous health care providers. The new updates improve the clarity of terms for the general
public and helps with the coding of important details such as type of fracture. Recent progress in
medicine and advances in technology are also included in the new updates. This version was made
to simplify the coding and provide users with all the necessary electronic tooling that will allow
providers to easily and completely record conditions. There are also new chapters added on
traditional medicine, sexual health, and gaming disorder. Specifically, ICD-11 was designed to be
used for certification and reporting of caused of deaths, morbidity coding and reporting, and for
clinical documentation. For any country looking to use ICD-11 there are many different languages
available to include French, Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish. Russian and 20 other languages are in
the works. Even the API, browser, and coding tool are in different languages if need be.
International Classification of Disease (ICD)was designed for providers to share information all
across the globe. It consists of coding categories and universal coding. It is new user friendly and
decreases the chance of making mistakes. The most recent updates show progress in medicine,
data for health care safety, diagnostic for recommendations for mental health conditions, and
documentation for Covid-19 certificates. A key principle in this revision was to simplify the coding
and provide users with all necessary electronic tooling. This will allow health care professional to
more easily and completely record conditions. (World Health Organization) (2022, Feb. 11) Who's
New International Classification 0f Diseases (ICD-11)
Improved ease and accuracy of coding requiring less user training than ever before, together with
the availability of online and offline functioning. ICD11 is digital health ready, for use in multiple
IT- environments, with a new API.
ICD-11 improves the clarity of terms for the general public and facilitates the coding of important
details such as the spread of a cancer or the exact site and type of a fracture. The new version
also includes updated diagnostic recommendations for mental health conditions and digital
documentation of COVID-19 certificates. ICD-11 is also more capable of capturing data on health-
care safety, thus identifying and reducing unnecessary events that may harm health such as unsafe
workflows in hospitals.
CD-11 is entirely digital with a new user-friendly format and multilingual capabilities that reduce
the chance of error. It has been compiled and updated with input from over 90 countries and
unprecedented involvement of health-care providers, enabling evolution from a system imposed
on clinicians into a truly enabling clinical classification and terminology database that serves a
broad range of uses for recording and reporting statistics on health.
