In Module Five, you discovered the importance of HIE standards, policies,
and technologies in the extraction of health information for the improved
quality of care. In this module, you will review the steps towards managing
the change that will occur during the implementation of HIE.
Leaders responsible for permeating the entrenched culture of healthcare
with transformative information-sharing systems and technologies face
many difficult challenges. Stakeholder implications are key among these
challenges. These include crafting communications to meet the needs of
various stakeholders, achieving stakeholder buy-in, formally training and
educating stakeholders, devising appropriate governance and leadership
strategies, and executing and sustaining the change so that it makes an
imprint on the organizational culture.
The culture of an organization is the shared set of values and beliefs that
influence the behavioral patterns, activities, and attitudes of those in the
organization. Organizational culture is a key component of an organization,
and changing it requires a great deal of strategic effort. Change
management principles may be applied to drive this initiative.
For your assignment in this module, you will discuss communication
strategies for achieving stakeholder buy-in. As you move through this
module, consider the communication techniques that must be applied, as
well as the importance of achieving buy-in.
