Module 3 Discussion
Hi Class,
Publix! Of course! Publix! I had to go with Publix because they show sustainability
through the way they treat their employees, satisfy their customers, build relationships, and
protect our environment. But are we sure? Is it really like what we see when we shop, all smiles
and clean stores that support our earth? The following is what I just found by doing 1 simple
google search..... There have been concerns about Publix focusing more on business and
convenience than over the environment. In 2019, Publix was working to sabotage the locals who
were trying to ban plastic use.
Publix chain has declined to ban single-use plastics in its stores. A business that
constantly puts itself first, over environmental problems, shows a lack of social responsibility.
These activities can possibly cause harm to the environment, intensify problems relating to the
environment, and may negatively impact staff, customers, suppliers, etc. Publix started their
turnaround by making simple changes and focused on the importance of being energy
efficient. Today, they do all the things sustainable that we expected from the beginning.
You can't really go wrong with all of the above that you told us. You cannot control
what everyone does or does not do but even though you are just one company, one can turn into
twenty-one really quick (a reference to how many businesses there actually are). Plus, it is a
great act of sustainability to show others, whether it is adults or kids, that everyone can learn
from good habits. For example, dumpster diving is gross but for what it is worth, that is one less
item in the landfill or one more item that can be recycled. For you to take the initiative and
talking to your boss about the company’s footprint is very responsible. Sometimes
people/business owners have so much going on that they need a little reminder of important but
secondary things. Nice work! Greenwashing can be something that is only knowledgeable of the
higher-ups but if you don't know of any, that is good. I think all the things you mentioned make
your company socially responsible but in a positive way.
