6-2: Revision Strategies
Revision- The stage in the writing process where you critique your paper’s coherence,
organization, content, and effectiveness.
General Tips for Revision
1. Get some distance from your paper.
2. In order to get the distance you need, you will have to give yourself plenty of time to
revise. Do not wait until the night before to attempt revisions. Instead, try to finish
writing your draft at least a few days before the deadline so that there is time to reread
and make the necessary large-scale and small-scale changes.
3. Use the in your document to locate important parts of your essay, highlighting function
such as the thesis, body paragraphs, the opposing viewpoint, and the conclusion.
4. Read your paper aloud. It is easier to the parts of your draft than it is to see them. hear
