[According to SB4 law enforcement officers are allowed to ask about a person's immigration status during any lawful detention or arrest, but local
government entities and officials are not allowed to prohibit or materially limit enforcement of immigration laws if these laws are violated elected and
appointed can be removed from office.]

[The court system plays a crucial role in interpreting and enforcing laws related to sanctuary cities, some of their functions include:
The interpretation of laws, Courts interpret the constitutionality and legality of sanctuary city policies. They determine whether these policies violate
federal immigration laws or not.
Adjudication of disputes, Courts resolve disputes between sanctuary cities and the federal government. These disputes often revolve around the extent
to which local authorities must cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
Protection of Rights: Courts protect the rights of individuals within sanctuary cities. They ensure that these policies do not infringe upon the
constitutional rights of individuals, including the right to due process and equal protection under the law. Relating to Fifth Circuit. The US Court of
Appeals for the Fifth Circuit has authority over federal cases originating from the states of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. In relation to sanctuary
cities, this court has made significant rulings. For instance, it upheld most of Texas' Senate Bill 4, which penalizes local officials who do not cooperate
with federal immigration enforcement. One issue that could arise may originate from the 10th amendment, The Tenth Amendment reserves powers not
delegated to the federal government to the states or the people. Sanctuary cities may argue that they have the right to establish their own policies
regarding immigration enforcement.
3. Describe how the U.S. law enforcement and court systems relate to sanctuary cities using information from the resources provided. How did they
respond to shared issues? What is at least one challenge area for the police in relationship to holding detainees?
[U.S. law enforcement and court systems have responded to the issue of sanctuary cities in numerous ways. Some law enforcement agencies and courts
support the concept of sanctuary cities, arguing that they help build trust with immigrant communities, which can lead to better crime reporting and
cooperation with police investigations. However, others oppose sanctuary cities, stating that they undermine federal law and can potentially harbor
criminals. The federal government has attempted to crack down on sanctuary cities by threatening to withhold federal funding, but these efforts have
often been blocked by court rulings. There are many challenges with police holding detainees one of the main challenges for police in relation to holding
detainees in sanctuary cities is the conflict between local and federal laws. In sanctuary cities, local law enforcement agencies are often prohibited from
detaining individuals solely based on their immigration status.]
