There are many ways one can present a PowerPoint presentation. The key
factor in using a presentation is to bring the audience in with the topic that is
being presented. Being able to use animations, and designs, add images and
videos, and charts and graphs to show the stats are ways to spike interest in the
topic. Presenting to a community about a public health issue is very important
because we need to treat our audience like they are Kings/Queens. What I
mean by that is that these topics sometimes are personal and heartfelt. The
approach that would be taken to just present a product is different when
presenting about a public health issue such as Alcohol Abuse.
We need to help them understand that this is not a lecture about what they are
doing wrong instead it should be a lecture about change, support, guidance,
resources, and practice of a better life. Helping them understand that this is a
disease and that they are not alone can help them open up to change. The
presentation needs to be informative. Being concise, using humor, giving eye
contact, and being bold and direct but with sympathy are great ways to lure the
audience in. it is such a great way to educate an audience not only are
there visuals, but you can express yourself within the speaker notes.
Since I am doing my presentation on substance abuse, I plan on using
photo's that express addiction such as homelessness and how I see
addiction. I also plan on using graphs to show the addiction rates of
my chosen community compared to others in the state. As far as
information goes, I will stick to short and sweet for the audience to
see but in the speaker notes I plan on being specific but not to the
point of being boring or drawn out, I want my audience to be able to
learn and have the information stick, but I also want to include areas
for questions that might come up.
