substance abuse as my topic and one way Michigan has tried to
implement intervention against it is the Special Alternative
Incarceration (SAI) Program, this program cognitive behavioral
therapy with emphasis of reducing/preventing or eliminating
substance abuse relapses from occurring later in a recovering addict's
life. The overall goal of this program is to reduce an addict from
relapsing and ending back up in the system, it consists of 20 group
sessions. I feel if there were more programs such as these that the
likelihood of an individual relapsing would drastically change, not only
does the program offer an addict the chance to start fresh but it helps
direct them onto the appropriate path in life. There are a few local
programs such as The Hope House located in Hillsdale County, they
offer the needs of what clients are seeking such as inpatient care,
counseling and resources but it is a smaller organization and cannot
help everyone who walks into the facility, I feel like if they could
expand on every aspect that the county could grow, and the addicts
can get the help they need.
