It controls the custody of the checks and ensures all cash receipts are reconciled with the
customer checks and cash sales/transactions. It is a safeguard in preventing and detecting
unauthorized use or acquisition (Romney et al., 2020). The ticket/check is a record (source
document) of a transaction or voided transaction. For example, a waitress/waiter can take
an order and the customer is served. The waitress/waiter can then void the ticket and the
customer (friend/family member) can eat for free. Implementing an electronic system
eliminates manual handling, processing, and storage of paper checks/tickets. It can also
track if a meal was actually prepared and served. A Kitchen Order Ticket (KOT) is an
automated system that sends a note to the kitchen, and billing division, and one is retained
in the system when an order is taken (Times, 2021). It contains information such as table
numbers, items ordered, and their quantity (Times, 2021). Having an automated system
can reduce manual mistakes, monetary discrepancies, and increase operational efficiency.
