The main advantage is that accountants would have more free time to
be able to make sure that all reports are accurate and on time.
Accountants would be able to focus more on the numbers and stress
less about fixing the system if something goes wrong.
I, however, disagree with having accountants focus solely on
producing financial statements. I believe that accountants should be
involved in design and production of the systems because they know
exactly what they need the system to do. If the system is already
designed to meet every need an accountant has then the accountant
won't have to stop their work to find the IT specialist and let them
know what else needs to be added to the program. This is where
communication between the two parties is key. And not just between
the accountants and the designers but between all departments that
are affected by the AIS.
Honestly, when you think about what an accounting is, it is already an
AIS. The accountants are just the tools used with this system, but
since they are on the frontline and immersed directly into this system,
they have a better understanding of what the AIS needs to do.
Accountants, in my opinion, shouldn't just focus on financial reports.
They are regularly using the AIS and as such they should also be
writing up reports on the effectiveness of this system. This may
possibly be they only way they could communicate with the designers
of the system to let them know ow what is exactly going on or what
needs to be fixed or added.
