A healthy student ministry is not evaluated based on numerical size of
the group. Rather, it is based off several factors that we will learn in this
course. The most important factor is the spiritual health of both leader and
student. After all, this is a Christian student ministry whose goal is to deepen
our relationship with Christ. As our relationship with Christ becomes stronger,
students should begin to reach their friends with the same gospel that has
impacted them so deeply. Second, a healthy ministry promotes the right
relationship with other students. The Bible tells us to “…love thy neighbor as
thyself.” (Matt. 22:39, KJV) The ministry ought to have only one head. After all,
anything with 2 heads is an oddity at best. A singular head limits confusion
and establishes a clear position of authority. Peer helpers may also be helpful
as they provide a solid mentor who is more relatable to their age group. In the
end, a healthy student ministry grows, reaches others, and most importantly,
serves Christ.
