Every day is a religious experience. Each day is a new opportunity to
improve ourselves, help others, and become closer to God. Everything
that surrounds us, from plants, animals, buildings, etc. are here because
of God’s will. I think this is what I enjoy the most about Johnson’s quote,
that everything and every experience is spiritual. It does not have to be
spectacular from a human perspective. Just waking up each day is a
spiritual experience. I also thoroughly enjoy how he includes both the
science of psychology and the art of counseling (Johnson, 2010). Through
God we are allowed to discover, experiment, and learn. We are able to use
what is available on Earth to create all sorts of things. Science is available
to us through Him, and through Science we are able to better understand
Him and all his creation. Through counseling, regardless of our foundation
and viewpoint, the goal is to help and support others to improve their
lives. This in and of itself is a Christian enterprise, as we should always
help our fellow man when we can.,
In the area of developmental psychology, whether in research or teaching,
these are also Christian enterprises. Through research I will be able to
discover new truths and relationships both scientifically and spiritually.
Through teaching I will be able to help the following generations of
researchers, scholars, and practitioners learn how to navigate the world
both scientifically and spiritually. I will shed new light on the theories that
drive development and how we grow and change over the lifetime.
Perhaps people can begin to come together more openly and incorporate
their spiritualities back into their daily lives.,,
