CRISIS CASE MANAGEMENT

Nature of Crisis
Latina is a beautiful nineteen-year-old young girl from South Philadelphia. She is
currently living on her own and working at a nightclub. Previously she sold drugs to obtain
money. Latina is trying to make it for herself at a young age because her mother struggles with
drug addiction. Latina is the oldest of four girls. Her sisters have been adopted and placed in
foster care. Growing up, Latina lived and saw things that were not normal. However, she grew
up thinking that what she lived was the usual. Latina’s grandmother, from her mother’s side,
overdosed on drugs and died when she was young. Latina’s mother has followed the same
trajectory and is in an intense state of drug addiction (Mettler, 2022). Unfortunately, because of
this situation in Latina’s life, she has been in a situational crisis. The problems that she has had to
undergo have caused trauma in her life. At a young age, she saw her mother going from man to
man, and her focus was not on her daughters.
For this reason, Latina felt she could not count on her mother. A sense of security and
safety was absent. Latina knew that she could not rely on her mother, yet Latina desired to have
someone there for her (Mettler, 2022). Now that she is on her own, she still loves her mother and
sees her occasionally. She witnesses her mother making use of drugs. Latina expresses how she
no longer gets angry at her; instead, she fears losing her mother to the drugs she uses. The nature
of this situational crisis has caused traumatic memories in Latina’s life. This trauma has forced
her to have intrusive memories and flashbacks that influence her behavior (Wright, 2011, p. 178).
