Implementation of an Electronic Health Record (EHR) Program
When implementing an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system it is beneficial
to use the Graduate-Level QSEN Competencies to help guide you implementing the
new system. The Quality and Safety Education in Nursing (QSEN) makes sure the
knowledge and tools that are needed to deliver safe and effective quality patient care
are in order. There are seven competencies that can help guide you to establish the
implementation of an EHR system: Quality, Safety, Teamwork and Collaboration,
Patient-Centered Care, Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) and Informatics (QSEN,
2012).

As of July 1, 2021, there were two policies that took effect for IT policies when an EHR
system is being implemented which are CMS Interoperability and Patient Access final rule
(CMS-9115-F) and CMS Interoperability and Prior Authorization proposed rule (CMS-9123-P)

There are four major ethical priorities for EHRS: Privacy and confidentiality, security
breaches, system implementation, and data inaccuracies.
