Song1: Jascha Heifetz plays Paganini Caprice No.24
SamLee0519,” : Jascha Heifetz plays Paganini Caprice No.24” YouTube, July 8th
2006https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPcnGrie__M
Sounds: This song has a monophonic texture. Even though teres more than 1 instrument the violin and
piano are play the same tone and are at the same frequency.
Melody: This song has many different ranges, From the 0:00 to 0:26 mark the artist sets the pace of the
song to be very moderate. Then quickly picks up the pacing at the 0:27 mark the artist playing the piano
matches the tone of the violin. At the 0:46 mark, the song seems as if it will slow down but it gets faster
in tempo. Even though the artist playing the Violin speeds up the pianist remains at the same pace but
plays a higher tone to compliment the violin. This is the case throughout the whole song.
Harmony: The piano sets the harmony of this song. Even though it’s being overshadowed at times by the
melody of the violin.
Rhythm: The Rhythm is both set by the violin ascending and descending In its pitches. Moderate from
0:00-0:26 then quickly picks up pace around 0:27 then gets even faster at 0:48. The song slows down
completely at 4:12. I would classify this song as a simple meter.
Form: I think the form of this song is binary primarily because of the sections constantly changing due to
the violin.
Song2: Henry Purcell- Rondeau from Abdelazer or The Moor’s Revenge
Helenagi, “Henry Purcell- Rondeau from Abdelazer or The Moor’s Revenge”. Youtube, February 1, 2008
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxJ5elHWOsM
Sounds: This song seems to have a polyphonic texture from start to finish. Most of the instruments seem
to be playing a different melody. The piano seems to be playing a different melody than the string
instruments.
Melody: This song is moderate when it comes to its melody from beginning to end. The pitches are the
only things that seem to change.
Harmony: Once again in this some the Piano sets the overall harmony in the song. I do feel as if you can
distinguish the instruments better than in song 1.
Rhythm: The rhythm is set by the string instruments, keeping a moderate flowing pace. I would say this
song has a simple meter.
Form: This song has a binary form with constantly repeating sections.
Song 3- Danza del Sable- Aram Khachaturian
Elcubanito79, “Danza del Sable- Aram Khachaturian”. YouTube, November 6th,2006
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cvx6WqRfi9o
Sounds- the flutes and saxophone set a monophonic texture from 0:00 to 0:40, I think the sound
transitions into a polyphonic at the 0:41 mark with each wind instrument playing a different melody.
Melody: The flutes in this song make the song sound energetic with the short notes and mid pitches.
Around the 0:41 mark, the saxophones make attempt to slow the tempo down. But the flutes keep the
pacing the same.
Harmony: While the flutes set the pacing of the song the saxophones create the overall harmony.
Rhythm: This song is very fast in pace; the rhythm is up and down due to the utilization of wind
instruments. This song is a simple meter as well.
Form: This song has a binary form as well, due to the repetitious cadences of the song.
Song 4- Sibelius: Karelia Suite- Intermezzo
Kelfaska, “Sibelius: Karelia Suite- Intermezzo”. YouTube, March 21st, 2008
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtIw5AkUEsE&list=PL7AC8EC892488AF74&index=74
Sound- Texture of this song is monophonic from 0:00-1:36, the base and violins play a very low calming
tone. Almost to the point you’d can be mistaken that where isn’t any music being played until the
introduction of the trumpets at 0:20. Also I feel the texture of some changes at the 1:33 mark to a
polyphonic texture.
Melody: This song starts off very low and calming with a soothing tempo. It then jumps to a moderate to
fast paced tempo with the higher pitches. The melody then drops back down at the 2:48 mark to a calm
tempo.
Harmony: I think the harmony is set by the string instruments at the start of the song. Then it’s changed
with the striking of the tambourine and drums are brought in. There’s a lot going on with some many
different instruments, but I feel as that’s the case.
Rhythm: Even though this song starts off slow and ascends to a high-pitched energetic tempo with the
inclusion of several other instruments. I still feel as this song would be classified as a simple meter from
start to finish.
Form: The form of this song is binary even though the tempo changes 3 different time it keeps the same
rhythm when it does transition.
