The three achievements that I think are the most important by the Romans
are: Roman buildings, roads, and aqueducts. All three of these things are tied closely
together and all incredibly significant. Buildings showed the Roman beliefs. Some of their major
buildings were the Coliseum and The Pont du Gard. They put so much time and energy into the
perfection of them. This was a major character of the Romans; they were very proud, and they
wanted their building and things to show this. The second are the roads. The road system was
very intricate and extensive. This showed the detail and knowledge of need for improvement of
life. Their development opened the civilization for trade and commerce. It carried on
developments to our current life through trains and streets in current England the measurement of
streets designs if from Roman times. “Why was the Roman chariot track width 56.5"? Because
that was the width of a chariot that would equal the width of two "standard" Roman horses. Thus,
wagon and horses would fit through the same narrow street. Specifications and bureaucracies
live forever!” (Hartman, 2006) This shows the amount of planning and development they put in
and it carries into our lives today. The third achievement is the aqueducts. I feel this is the
most important of the three. Water is life! The Romans sustained a way to move the water for
their needs and help it reach the temperatures they desired. This shows the pride they had in
their own care and in the pleasure of their life. Though the most important it is not to be done
alone. Without the development of road and building they would not
have developed the aqueduct the same. All of them go hand in hand but were important.
