Topic: Impact of Covid-19 on the performance of high school students in the USA
Sample: The study will involve researching the impact of COvid-19 on the performance of high
school students between the age of 12-16 years for both girls and boys.
Independent variable: the study will involve surveying the performance of the high school
students. I will ensure the students are divided based on gender and age group, such as 12-14 and
15-16, to study the impact of the virus on performance.
Dependent variable: there will be variation in the performance of the students based on age and
gender, showing the impact of the virus on students for different groups.
Hypothesis: H1 Girls between the ages of 15-16 years will realize a high impact of the virus on
their performance as compared to boys of the same age
H2: The variation on the results for the two genders is expected to vary as they both perceive
Covid-19 differently
H3: The impact of the virus is also predicted to depend on the socio-economic and psychological
factors of the students.
Research Questions
The study will be guided by three research questions:
a) What is the impact of Covid-19 on the performance of high school students ageing
between 12-16 years in the USA?
b) How does the performance of the students vary based on gender during Covid-19 in the
USA?

c) How do the socio-economic and psychological factors influence the performance of high
school students during Covid-19 in the USA?
Disciplines incorporated: Education, gender studies, psychology and health sciences.
Justification: The discipline of education will be important in the study to provide additional
information on the learners' performance. Through the discipline, results of both genders ranging
between 12-16 years will be highlighted. In gender studies, the variation of the performance
based on gender (girls and boys) will provide useful information in completing the study. The
psychological impacts of Covid-19 on the performance of the learners will provide viable
information for easy statistical analysis of the survey. Through the discipline, the performance of
the learners will be related to the psychological torture of Covid-19. Finally, health sciences will
assist in explaining the relationship between the psychological impact and age of the learners,
impacting the performance of the learners. Thus, the four selected disciplines will be critical in
accomplishing the survey and providing useful information on the topic of study.
