Heart Disease Topic
I identified heart disease as the major health problem among the older adults in the
Sacramento region among the Hispanic cultural group. High mortality rates of the Hispanic
people have been recorded, and the disease is easily preventable by establishing education
programs for the people. Families need to take care of older adults and choose the most
appropriate diet for these people. The population of older adults in the Hispanic culture is
growing, so the population of older adults is expected to double by the year 2050. The promotion
of health strategy aims to reduce the high heart disease rates that have led to mortality rates
among older people. I chose this topic because it is very important to raise awareness of
preventable measures for heart disease to promote health within the area. For me to implement
the health promotion strategy and have been keen on identifying the target population, I will
involve passionate people in the project, and I will facilitate support from the area
administration. Cultural competency needs to be implemented in the project to improve
healthcare quality for the diverse Hispanic cultural population. The strategy seeks to employ
cultural competency so that the education program will run effectively. The project relates to
leading health indicators of healthy people in controlling blood pressure to hypertensive people
and adult cigarette smoking.
Heart disease cases have been frequently reported among the old Hispanic cultural group
in the Sacramento region (Meyer, et al. 2021). The causes of heart disease in the area include
smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, poor diet, and high blood cholesterol. According to Gordon
3
majority of older adults, especially men, are addicted to smoking, which has exposed them to
more dangers of heart disease. Poor nutritious food leads to obesity, and taking food with high
cholesterol is little known in the area. That's why I came up with the education program on the
preventable measures of heart disease. From the article's findings, in every ten men, two are
affected by heart disease, which was not common in previous years. The failure of older adults
to understand the causes of heart disease has also been a big problem for them, including the
failure to attend medical checkups. The region's cultural norms do not guarantee older women
for medical checkups. Some of them are limited to access care which needs to be discouraged
According to the article's study (Gordon, et al. 2022), hypertension accounts for a quarter
of heart failure in older adults. 68% of heart disease cases are attributed to hypertension. Some
earlier community studies according to the article explain that hypertension results in heart
failure in 60% of the patients. The findings show that there is a need for Hispanics to be educated
on the causes and control of heart disease. The article summarizes the importance of a healthy
diet for older adults and the need to care for their well-being. The author has highlighted that old
people need to have good nutrition to give them the energy to control their weight and prevent
heart disease and high blood pressure. Good nutrition is good for the aging people in the
communities as it helps them to have a healthy lifestyle. People need to be educated on the need
for a healthy diet and how to promote their health. The information from the article on
consuming fat-free products with low fats and lean meats and limiting foods containing high fats
and cholesterol is helpful in the health promotion strategy as it reduces the risks of heart disease
(Zuercher et. al 2022).
My program seeks to educate people on the causes and control of heart disease to
improve their knowledge and skills to influence their attitudes and behavior required to improve
4
their health style. Educational programs on managing heart disease have increased self-
management and self-care for patients with heart disease. I will employ the following
steps in my program: learning styles, attitudes and motivation, current knowledge,
learning abilities, and misconceptions according to the area's cultural beliefs. The
project will account for face-to-face education sessions and some printed materials,
which I will provide to the patients and other community members during the project.
Face-to-face sessions will increase the chances of interaction with the community
people, which will enable me to gather more data on the weak point areas that need
more attention to educate on. I will educate them more on nutrition because those
patients who have not had lifestyle sessions need to learn the role of nutrition, the
importance of physical activities to their bodies, and the recommended types of fats for
their bodies. On the side of a healthy diet, I will educate them on foods with added
sugars, unhealthy fats, and low whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, which are high in
processed foods that are packed and ready to consume (González et al. 2022).
I will also educate the people on the dangers of smoking to their health. Older men are
addicted to smoking because they have easy access to cigarettes in the region, but it can be
undone when they are educated on its effects on their health. It will be better if people change
their smoking habits because everyone needs a healthy life. It will be my joy if people cease
smoking. I will issue some printed materials showing the effects of smoking on the lungs, which
affect the heart. I will also educate them on how to control their blood pressure.
Education is recognized as an important program to promote health to people with heart
disease because people need to be educated on smoking cessation, blood pressure,
cholesterol
management, and lifestyle management. Education serves as the best co-intervention to heart
disease. With the help of the area administration and other passionate people in the community, I

will be able to achieve the goal of the project because when people collaborate and work together
well, the target is always achieved.
The national education program has raised awareness of heart disease and its associated
health risk factors. education programs cover ways how to manage heart disease and ways how
to manage health. People need to live a healthy life to the fullest. education programs tackle how
one can manage a healthy lifestyle and improve ones sleeping and heating habits and also to
manage heart disease symptoms. People who participate in heart disease education programs
that
include physical health and mental health have reduced risk of heart disease. However, people
also need to learn about changes in their heart rate pulse, weight and blood pressure to prevent
and control heart disease.
The objective or main goal of healthy people 2030 on heart disease is to reduce deaths
and improve cardiovascular health and stroke. One of the leading deadly diseases in the world is
heart disease. The healthy people initiative by 2030 is focusing on treating heart disease and
preventing stroke. The American heart association is focusing on healthier lives and is ensuring
equitable health care for all people. It's empowering people on the ways to improve their heart
health and well-being. The initiative has saved many lives by creating awareness of the causes
and control of heart disease.
In conclusion, education programs have a key role in increasing people's knowledge of
their healthcare and convincing people to adhere to better lifestyle modifications according to the
culture practiced in the area (Rylee. et al. 2022) Heart disease care needs well-evaluated
strategies and provided effectively. Failure to do that could be a waste of time. People with heart
disease need to be educated to adapt to their chronic state and perform their self-care. I will
6
always encourage people on the importance of a healthy diet and help them control their blood
pressure. People need to stop smoking to have better health and a better lifestyle.
