Writing Prompt: In an illustration paragraph, the writer chooses a topic and explains his/her
opinion about the topic, using specific examples to support that opinion/explanation. In the

Today social media has become a huge part of everyone’s life. It has had many good impacts but
primarily it has affected people in many bad ways. First, social media can cause depression and anxiety
because some people stay behind closed doors for hours. Some people hide behind a computer or
phone and do not go out to talk to other people. Another effect is cyberbullying. A lot of people have
been victims of cyberbullying and have been hurt in many ways. As a result of that they have become
depress and self- conscious. There are people who use social media to spread rumors and to bash other
people not knowing how much that can impact someone’s life. Social media tend to give people the
wrong expectations on a lot of things. There are many people with plastic surgery lying about their
fitness and other people believe them. People all over social media lie about a lot of things to deceive
others not knowing the consequences it can bring. Next, is the effect of body image. On social media a
lot of people tend to show their body’s making other envious and to hate their own bodies. This can lead
to low esteem and self-hate. There is a lot of people that wish they had another person’s body and do
not accept themselves for what they are. In addition to this social media can become an addiction.
People stay home all day scrolling down their phones. They have no life sometimes just sitting home on
social media for hours without even moving. Lastly, the use of social media can be a big distraction for
many people. Primarily say that social media tend to interfere with their homework. Even though social
media is so important for some people fit has affected many other people in horrible ways.
