The tables are set up with specific spacing in each block. Please do not change. The reference block is already set up in APA with
double-spacing and hanging indent. You do not need to include your article references in the reference section; only the Bible
reference(s). NOTE: Delete the two tables you do not use.

This article examines the fiscal policies and practices that affect how students with
disabilities are educated in charter schools. On page 33 within the “Methodology” section,
the article analyzes the funding, legal responsibilities, and variability across states and
districts, with the goal of highlighting equity issues and informing policy and practice (Rhim
et al., 2021). This indicates applied research because the authors are not building theory,
but addressing a real-world problem in education and offering recommendations that
address equity and alignment to improve access and opportunities for students with
disabilities. .

Applied research seeks to solve practical problems and directly inform decision-making r
practice. The article focuses on fiscal policies in practice and their effects on special
education services. Kitsantas et al., (2023), p. [13] discusses applied research as research
that helps find answers to a specific practical problems, which in this case is fiscal
opportunities to create more access and opportunities for students with disabilities in
charter schools.

The study describes and compares fiscal frameworks across state and district levels.
Throughout the article, the authors give descriptions on fiscal responsibility and its affects
on special education students. Specifically on page 35 in paragraph 3, the authors discuss
how money is allocated and disbursed between public and charter schools (Rhim et al.,
2021).

Kitsantas et al., (2023) on page 113 tells us that descriptive studies address wide ranges of
issues in schools and describe how interventions can be used to fix an issue.

Rationale with support from article
for how you know it is basic or
applied (include page/paragraph #)
This article presents applied research because they present a real-world problem. The
researchers aim to address the enrollment gap for students with disabilities in charter
schools. The authors discuss implications on why this is an issue and it involves students
and parents and their enrollment reasons. Specifically, in paragraph 2 the researchers
discuss how they are documenting the existence of the gap, while at the same time trying
to make sense of the grounding effects of the gap (Gilmour et al., 2022).
Rationale with support from
textbook for how you know it is
basic or applied (include page #)
The textbook describes one of the characteristics of applied research as being motivated by
concerns of a practice and includes those affected by these practices such as students,
parents and colleagues (Kitsantas et al., 2023, p. [13]). Another characteristic of applied
research from the textbook is the purpose of finding solutions to a practical problem,
which in this case is the enrollment gap of students with disabilities (Kitsantas et al., 2023,
p. [13]).
Specific quantitative research design

Quasi-experimental. This is because of the groups not being randomized but pulled based
on the information from the schools’ enrollment numbers.
Rationale with support from article
for how you know the design is
The article uses a randomized school choice lottery as part of their analysis and data
collection. Within the abstract, the authors describe how the data that was collected relies
correct (include page/paragraph #) on the randomization of school assignment (Gilmour et al., 2022). Gilmour et al. (2022)
also throughout their research article discuss the data from the schools and families and
how it attributes to the gap created.

Rationale with support from
textbook for how you know the
design is correct (include page #)
The textbook describes quasi-experimental designs as experiments that do not have full
experimental control (Kitsantas et al., 2023, p. [179]). The study relies on random lottery
assignment from schools and parental choice data. This makes the study
quasiexperimental.

Giersch, 2022 investigates beliefs and perceptions among charter school directors and
district superintendents in paragraph 5. This helps analyze how structural aspects of school
choice affect racial and socioeconomic segregation.
Rationale with support from
textbook for how you know it is
basic or applied (include page #)
Basic research is described in the textbook as research that focuses on understanding
observable events and processes that attempt to explain why things happen (Kitsantas et
al., 2023, p. [12]). This research takes the numbers of schools that are losing white students
and describes why this is happening.

correct (include page/paragraph #) administrators to describe perceptions regarding their ability to influence diversity,
attributing segregation to lottery-based choice mechanisms and weakened support for
desegregation in paragraph 3 under the “Background of the study” section.
Rationale with support from
textbook for how you know the
design is correct (include page #)
The textbook tells us that descriptive survey design collects and summarize perceptions or
characteristic without manipulation or random assignment on page 112 (Kitsantas et al.,
2023).

Parenthetical In-text Citation (DeAngelis & Barnard, 2020)
Rationale with support from article
for how you know it is basic or
applied (include page/paragraph #)
The article uses experimental methods inform real world decision making about resource
allocation for charter schools. It is applied research because on page 524 the authors
discuss how to apply the findings of their research and how the outcome will produce more
successful school leaders and students with the spending suggested from the research
(DeAngelis & Barnard, 2020).
Rationale with support from
textbook for how you know it is
basic or applied (include page #)
The textbook describes one of the characteristics of applied research is finding solutions to
a practical problem, which in this case is budgeting for charter schools to develop better
outcomes for students based on competition between districts (Kitsantas et al., 2023, p.
[13]).

DeAngelis & Barnard, (2020) discusses how the used randomly selected schools for a
sample on page 526 paragraph 2.

textbook for how you know the
design is correct (include page #)
It is an experimental design because (Kitsantas et al., 2023, p. [84]), tells us that
experimental design uses randomized assignment and comparison groups to develop data
and research.
Biblical Integration
For the following questions, you will take a biblical worldview connecting research and the Bible. Each question must be supported
with a different Bible verse. Answer each question with 3-5 sentences. Be sure to cite in-text and reference.
1. Explain why it is important to support your claims when conducting research.
When you support your research, you mirror what accuracy, honesty, and integrity represent. Supporting claims with
evidence demonstrates a commitment to facts and truth rather than personal bias. Colossians 3:23 tells us that “Whatever
you do, work at it with all your heart” (English Standard Bible, 2001/2016).
2. Explain the connection between the Bible and research design.
Research that is done well brings order and clarity to those who seek it. The Bible tells us that everything should be done in
an orderly and fitting way (English Standard Bible, 2001/2016, 1 Corinthians 14:40). Research is designed to follow a path
that has structure and is done a certain way for a reason.
3. Discuss the importance of using quantitative measures to explain relationships.
9
RDP: QUAN PRE-MATRIX TABLE EDUC 750
Quantitative research emphasizes precision and honesty when representing data. Accurately measuring data and explaining
relationships show that a person can be faithful as a steward of knowledge and resources. When thinking of trust with things
as simple as numbers, Luke 16:10 tells us that whoever can be trusted with little can be trusted with much (English Standard
Bible, 2001/2016). Ensuring that we ae doing the small things such as analyzing numbers in quantitative research proves that
we are true stewards of God and his people.
