Four C’s of Leadership Summary
The four C’s of leadership are character, competence, cadence, and capacity. Character is
who you are when no one else is watching. They are always their true selves. Leaders who have
character have strong relationships and they use those relationships to influence those around
them. Competence is leading by example. A competent leader will go above and beyond what
they are expected to do. They will always show up no matter how hard the task is and put all
their effort into it. Cadence has to do with consistency. Being consistent as a leader means that
you show up on time every single day to work. It can also mean that you treat people well
consistently. A leader who has cadence consistently shows up to work and gives the same
amount of effort every single day. Capacity is how a person can lead others effectively. There
may be times where you must change the way that you lead because you are not getting good
results at first or the people who you are trying to lead respond better in a different way. To lead
with capacity, it is important that you know about the people who you work with and the work
itself.
The Most Important Quality
I feel that competence is the most important leadership characteristic to have because it
really shows leadership. It is important to lead people by telling them what they should be doing,
but if you are not able to put into action what you say, then you are not a true leader. Almost
anyone can tell others what to do and how they should be working, but not everyone can lead by
example. If you are showing what it means to work hard and go above and beyond what you are
expected to do, then others will follow. People notice when you are putting in hard work and

doing more than what is expected of you. Those types of people never go unnoticed. Being an
example towards others is the best way to show leadership.
The Quality I Possess the Most
The quality that I possess the most is character because I always strive to be the best
version of myself. I do this when people are watching or are not watching. Character is what
people compliment me the most on. Everyone always says how much they admire my character
and how even though people around me may change how they act towards different people, I
never do. I am always the same no matter who I am working with or spending time with. I strive
to have this quality because I want to be the person who God made me to be, and He is the only
one watching me at all times. I strive to have good character for God.
The Quality I Need to Improve
The quality that I need to work on the most is capacity. I think of myself more of a quiet
leader and someone who leads by example. Capacity has to do with being more of a loud leader.
Leaders who have capacity are good at changing the way that they lead others if the first way is
not working. I am not a leader who tells others what they should be doing and how they could
get better at something. I need to work on being more vocal as a leader. Also, I need to work on
getting to know my coworkers more, so I can better help them if they are ever in need of support
or help.
Shaping the Culture of My Workplace
I can use my understanding of the Four C’s of Leadership to help shape the culture of my
workplace by making sure I have the qualities of the Four C’s of Leadership. If I display all four

of these qualities, then other people at my workplace will notice them and want to have these
qualities as well. If everyone notices them and learns to have these qualities, then the culture of
the workplace will start to change. My workplace will become even more of a team atmosphere
than it already was. Also, my workplace will run a lot smoother, and everyone will work well
together. It would become a great and healthy place to work.
Additional Characteristics
Additional characteristics that I feel are most important to help shape an organization’s
culture include community, collaboration, trust, and positivity. Having community is so
important in any type of workplace. If coworkers are not able to come together and build
relationships with each other, then quality work is not going to be able to get done. Also, if there
is a good community within the workplace, then people are going to want to work there. Having
good relationships with coworkers is not enough. You need to be able to collaborate with one
another. Most workplaces require you to collaborate with your coworkers. If an organization
does not have employees who can collaborate with one another, then quality work will not get
done. If an organization has community and collaboration, it will also need trust. This is a huge
characteristic because you will not be able to collaborate with coworkers if you have not formed
trust with them. Trusting others can be difficult, but that is why it is so important to build that
community first. Once you build a strong community, trust will come a lot easier. Finally, having
positivity within a workplace is huge. Mistakes are going to happen. That is just inevitable, but
how you act when mistakes happen will really test how strong a workplace’s community is. If
people are negative towards someone who makes a mistake, it demonstrates a weak community.
If people show positivity towards someone who makes a mistake, it demonstrates a strong

community. It is important to stay positive no matter what because it helps create a safe and
supportive environment for people to work in.
