As an educator, I do feel like I can lead a “Christian classroom” in a public school. Being
a Christian is to be Christ like, Christ was an honest, humble man that was without sin. We can
show “Christian” values that will show others to want to a “Christian”. According to Matthew
5:16 (KJV) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify
your Father which is in heaven. For me I have to give God the glory daily even in my teachings.
Van Brummelen (2009) p.66 days that “Jesus said teachers of the law are like stewards.” I may
not be able to teach how a teacher could in a “Christian” school, but I still can teach students in
public schools content that would bring glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Demonstrating “Christian” characteristics in public schools is similar to those of
“Christian” school characteristics. Teachers in public school settings can show love, gentleness,
and goodness that are all signs of having the fruits of the Spirit, as said in Galatians 5:22 (KJV).
Van Brummelen (2009) p.49 says “we must be committed personally to Jesus Christ.” Because if
we let God guide us, we as teachers may lead our students to also have “Christian”
characteristics whether in a public or “Christian” school. Personally I have not seen a “Christian”
school show secular characteristics, Christian schools however could have more structure than
public school, because admiration can instill their values into their students. Christian schools are
on the right path on keeping the scripture and teachings of Jesus in the minds of our young
children because they will one day be our future leaders. Through, I feel teachers in public
schools can establish “Christian” knowledge to public school students also.
