LEARNING THEORY ASSIGNMENT
Introduction
Learning environments can vary based on teacher, skills, and characteristics of students.
In this paper we’ll discuss how we can make the best learning environment for Keven. Keven is
a sixth-grade student who has relocated schools three times within two years because his mom is
in the military, and currently deployed. At home, his dad is doing all he can and taking care of
Keven’s two younger sisters. In school, he typically has good grades in all classes except math.
Keven’s math teacher, Ms. Thomas has been trying to reach out to Keven and help him get back
on his feet. She’s offered incentive programs for him and has even met with his father. So far,
nothing has encouraged Keven to do better. On the other hand, Keven does enjoy karate,
skateboarding, and computer games. With these details in mind, we’ll discover ways Ms.
Thomas can support Keven.
Effective Teacher for Keven
Keven is between stage four and stage five of Erikson’s stage of psychosocial
development. Stage four happens between ages six and twelve years old. This is when children
want to make things and success makes them proud and happy. When they fail, it can create a
negative impact on their self-esteem (Slavin & Schunk, 2023). Stage five happens between the
ages of twelve and eighteen. At this stage, they question who they are and start to turn away from
their parents and friends (Slavin & Schunk, 2023). We already know that Keven has moved a
few times within a short period of time. His mom is active duty in the military and is currently
deployed. Additionally, his father is doing his best at caring for him and his two younger sisters.
With all these challenges that Keven is facing at home, he could really use a teacher to support
