Almost all religions were tolerated, but Christianity was persecuted. Christianity was persecuted for
several reasons. “The Romans had no sufficient base intellectually, that is: they did not have anything
big enough, or permanent enough to which to relate either their thinking or their life." According to Dr.
Schaeffer. The Romans worshipped many Gods, but they are and can be limited. And when their society
tumbled, their Gods did too Schaeffer, 2015. Christians were opposing almost everything the Roman
empire stood for during that time. Because their religion didn’t want them to praise a false God it didn’t
allow them. Christians didn't worship their emperors because Christianity wouldn't allow for the
worship of idols. According to Dr. Schaeffer they would have worshipped Jesus and Ceasar they would
have gone unharmed. But they worshipped one God only and rejected. There was no mixture, all other
Gods were seen as false Gods. Many of the Romans couldn't understand this religion & became
infuriated that there was no answer for this religion, which is why Christians and Christianity was
persecuted during the Roman era.
