Introduction
This reflection goes into depth on my results from taking the Uniquely You Assessment.
This assessment is a combination of questions that produces results in different categories like
spiritual gifts, your DISC personality types, strengths, weakness, and etc. This assessment is
super helpful when you are trying to dive deeper into yourself as well as a deeper understanding
into human behavior in general with a biblical perspective. The Uniquely You provides insights
on personality and giftings that can lead to improvement in many ministry areas like church
health, involvement, leadership, evangelism, and more. In this paper, I will go into depth about
my own personal results like my strengths, weaknesses, spiritual gifts, and DISC results based on
my answers to the questions provided. The DISC test is a personal assessment that is meant to be
used as a tool for individuals to better understand themselves and their behaviors. It measures
dimensions of your personality. The DISC acronym stands for the four main personality types
(temperaments), and they are dominance, influence, steadiness, and conscientiousness.
DISC Insights
The assessment included this statement in the introduction which is such a good preface,
“Our personalities should never become an excuse for poor behavior,” so I also wanted to
include that into this paper. In the results of the DISC test, it talks about us having Behavioral
Blends that are specific to you, so there are two sections in the DISK insights that will be
covered and that is “This is expected of me” and “This is me.” My “This is expected of me”
resulted in steady influencers or S/I meaning that my S and I category were the highest on my
chart. The “S” is described in the assessment as “passive/people-oriented” and the “I” is
described as “active/people-oriented.” The description of what this means in terms of what
people expect from me was pretty accurate in my opinion. It explained that I am more people-
2
oriented than task-oriented, which is very accurate. I definitely find myself often putting
relational needs with others over the tasks at hand, which I find can get me into trouble. This
definitely is how my leadership style is and also something that can get in the way of
productivity. Another main aspect of this graph was that people expect me to both inspiring and
submissive. One sentence that was said that I didn’t necessary fully agree with is, “You feel
others want you to be active and outgoing in crowds, but passive and reserved in small groups or
with individuals.” From what I have noticed and other’s feedback, it is normally completely
switched, and I find myself being more outgoing in smaller groups and passive in larger ones.
My “This is me” graph resulted in combinations of the letters “S”, “I”, and “C”. The letter “C”
represents passive/task oriented. The description of this graph described me so well and so
accurately it was scary. The main couple of points were that I tend to be more passive than active
and that I can find myself being at the two ends of the spectrum, either the life of the party or a
quiet spectator. I can step up, in terms of leadership, if I need to but will not be the first to
volunteer if there is a leader present. Overall, my two graphs were pretty similar to each other
and accurate from what I know about myself.
Strengths
Some of the strengths listed on my Uniquely You assessment were ones that I expected
or ones that were well known, and there were others listed that surprised me. One of the
strengths that was listed that I could have guessed was that I am more relational and am good at
caring for others. This attribute of being predominately relational really is the root of my love of
serving others and caring for other’s needs. I love to build deep relationships with other people.
An interesting point that got brought up in my Strengths and Uniqueness section was that I tend
to be “caring more about what people think and serving others, than you do about being strong or
3
right about things.” I feel like deep down I agree with this statement, but actually reading it about
myself made it so real because I started to notice it more in my conversations. I started to notice
that I do more just care about how this person sees and feels about me and that is more important
than being right about this particular subject. Something that I did not expect to be said on my
results is that “People seem to be more important to you than anything else.” That is just such a
strong statement, and it opened my eyes and made me think on the value that I put on the people
around me, especially my close friend group. This section also talked about that I am not super
concerned with being in charge or the boss. I would say that this is pretty accurate because I will
step up if I need to, but it is not my first choice. I would much rather be doing all the behind-the-
scenes things; however, I do still love to be able to pour into people and lead others to help them
grow. One attribute that I was not expecting to hear was, “You like to think in depth, rather than
do shallow research.” I don’t think this is the case most of the time when it comes to research
papers or finding articles.
Weaknesses and Conflicts
One weakness listed that is definitely a huge thing for me is productivity because instead
of tackling the task at hand, it can be really easy for me to get caught up in conversation and
completely deviate from what I need to be doing. The very apparent relational side of me can
cause me to get very distracted when working in an environment with people around me. One
sentence that was said in my results that really stood out to me because of how true it is, “You
may not want to hurt someone’s feelings therefore you sometimes let important details slide.”
This has always been a problem for me, especially recently when I am digging more into
ministry and having those God conversations with people. I have been trying to get better at this
and explaining in a way that is truth but also in a loving manner. This deep-rooted desire to be
4
liked by everyone and be everyone’s friend is something that needs to be guarded against
because it becomes something that overtakes everything else. This also makes it very difficult to
stand up for myself against “people who may try to control you.” Another weakness is “You
sometimes struggle with whether or not to speak out against others.” This is so accurate because
a lot of the times I recognize and know what I need to say but then second guess myself. I find
myself feeling torn most of the time of whether to speak up or just let it go. This goes hand in
hand with another weakness that was mentioned which said, “You can be too contemplative and
absorbed by the problems of life.” This just goes back to the second guessing and contemplating
do I actually need to speak up or is this actually a problem that I need to address. The second part
of this weakness actually made me think of how quickly it can be for me to be too absorbed by
the problems of life and almost get overwhelmed if something goes wrong because I start to
think of that unravels other issues. Overthinking goes hand in hand with people pleasing with me
which are my top two weaknesses overall in my weaknesses and conflicts sections.
Spiritual Gifts
This assessment did such a great job at including a whole page to an introduction of
spiritual gifts. They included verses like Psalm 139:14 and Philippians 3:10 as well as a couple
of definitions to what spiritual gifts actually are and why they are important. These gifts are God-
given and made to motivate us. God gifted us with these “special influences” in order that we
might glorify Him. I love this sentence that is included in this assessment which says, “Knowing
and exercising your motivation is vital to spiritual victory.” Knowing these spiritual gifts and
being aware of them is important in your walk with Lord and what you accomplish for Him.
They make you more effective in your ministry. The three spiritual gifts that were on my results
were teaching, faith, and knowledge. The first spiritual gift is described as preferring to explain
5
why things are true. A deeper understanding of biblical ideas is always something that interests
me and what I spend the majority of my time doing. Learning new ideas about the Bible or
digging deeper into a topic is what gives me energy and when my passion comes out. The next
spiritual gift of faith is described as “found in those with the obvious ability to trust God in the
most adverse circumstances.” It is a deeper dependence on God and His Word. I would say that I
am an optimist, especially when it comes to God. This can come to a point sometimes where I
overly trust and use it as an excuse for me not to do anything because it is in God’s hands. Yes,
my life is in God’s hands, but He wants to lead and direct us, and we can’t do that if we are not
even moving or taking steps. I trust too much to the point where I stay complacent when it comes
to decisions sometimes. The last spiritual gift is knowledge which is described as “a supernatural
revelation of certain facts in the mind of God, which gives instant and specific information that
one would have no other way of knowing, except from God. This is a gift or ability to receive
specific truth from the Word of God.
Conclusion
To conclude, this assessment was very insightful and helpful if anyone is looking to take
a deep dive into who they are and their spiritual gifts. It goes beyond superficial and can help
clear some questions that you might be asking about yourself. It is very well rounded as there is
an inclusion of both strengths and weaknesses and can be scary accurate. My strengths were all
very relationally related as well as people skills in general, and then my weaknesses were letting
the views and opinions of others dictate my actions as well as productivity. This has encouraged
me to strive to live in my strengths and grow as well as be made known of my weaknesses and
work on them. The inclusion of my spiritual gifts which were teaching, faith, and knowledge was
